Thanks Heather! I appreciate the time you put into this critique. :-)

As for the comments regarding my photo being "uninviting", the land that I built on was apparently a popular "lover's lane" hiding spot. The "lovers" apparently didn't think that the new homeowner would mind their use of the driveway for their midnight meetings. It took putting up a gate for them to get the hint. So, while I welcome common guests, the gate was meant to be "uninviting" to those who didn't respect my place. :-)

Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against a little "lovin'", it's just that I'd rather they had taken their used condoms and kleenex with them when they left! The gate is a hassle but it beats having to dispose of the results of not having one. ;-)

Thanks to all for the comments. I always appreciate feedback on my photos. God knows that I have a lot to learn.

I think your focus and clarity really make this shot for me. I like the smooth texture of the lock against the grain of the wood. Really creates some visual impact there. Also the detail shown in the chain is great as well.
The lighting for the most part is good, a little bright in a couple places, but still a very nice photo.
The angle and framing/cropping is good. Everything looks lined up nicely. The lock being off center is visually appealing here as well. I don't think it would work as well had it been dead center. The chain going across the top, the the way the 2 pieces of wood meet at an angle like that really balance out the photo.
As for meeting the challenge, I'm up to any suggestion cause if it makes YOU think of your home, then who am I to say any different?
I think it's an excellent shot.

Doesn't look sweet, looks like it is uninviting (to a gate?). But is is an interesting photo.

If this is the entrance to home, then it doesn't look very sweet! Rather uninviting.

Nicely composed. Even the shadowing works here. I would have scored hight, but It's kind of a stetch on the challenge theme. 8

Great texture. I'm huge on texture. I'm not big on the lighting or the slight lack of contrast, but I don't care. I love the texture.

Nice and clear, but do you really need such a big lock for your home?
The texture of the wood against the lock is good combination along with the shadow.
