 Went into the garden, found these two guys. A few other buddies sacrified their lives in the feezer, but the dead bugs looked too, well, dead. These guys cooperated and you could wrangle them in the right direction with some forecepts then snap a quick shot. Neither tried to fly away either...

Post production: Separated the layers into background, leaf, and bugs. Worked separately on levels and saturation. Cloned out a few imperfections (in the leaf), made sure the red was uniformly blurred, cloned out a few highlights in the black bug and burned him a little.

Great creativity. The colors contrasting with each other are very appealing. There are a couple of problems though. The focus is lost somewhere on the leaf and should have been on the insects. Rule of thirds would have helped. Maybe a crop with the insects farther from the center would have been better. Lighting is a bit flat and could have been improved with flash to bring out the details a bit better in the black insect. Over all it is a very nice attempt. I hope they haven't gone too far and wouldn't mind asnother attempt.

I like the contrasting colors, but for me (and it could be my aging eyes) I wish it was just a bit more in focus. Bumping up after a second look. :-)

Cute title. You did a great job with colour contrast here. There's somthing strange about the image quality though. I don't know whether it's high ISO or bad resizing, but I guess it's just those awful JPEG artifarcts you get with those vibrant colours. 10. PS: Reminds me of my very first challenge entry :)

Cute title and thumbnail. Strong idea and comp. I just wish I knew exactly what was happening here. Ladybirds eat aphids but the black insect looks different and I can't see the ladybird feasting on it!

Great colors and obvious contrasts among them. Subject is interesting in its brilliance of color though the bugs themselves aren't that keen to me. I'm not sure what it is about the image though that is slightly offputting. It feels.. dull.. even though the colors clearly stand out. Almost flat I guess, I'm not sure what lighting you used but it seems to lack a luminosity that I'm expecting I guess. I also wish there was just a bit crisper focus. Still it is a solid image, I gave a 5.

Nice color contrast. It could be sharpened a tad more and the bugs might fare better if a tad more off centered with a different crop :) But nice capture!

Nice subject, the background is too red for me though, it would have been nicer if there would have been out of focus leaves IMO.
