Converted to B&W, resized and cropped. Adjusted levels. That's about it. I'll say it now, even though nobody'll be able to read it until after the vote, I double dare someone to tell me this is either to subtle for the challenge or that it isn't really black and white. *grin*

I probably would have given this a ten, but the contrast seemed a little low. it is definitely good.

For those who are interested, Grevy is the name for the kind of zebra pictured. I wanted to use the zebra's name, but couldn't track down the information.

This is a perfect subject for black and white. I'm dizzy just looking at the photo.

Interesting !

I was really hoping to see a zebra photo this challenge, but I never imagined it would be this good. I absolutely love the composition of this photo.
06/07/2002 02:01:00 PM
this is one of the best animal shots i have ever seen. nice nice nice!

I'm not sure . . . I think this one would look better in color! J/k. To be honest, I can't make up my mind about this one. It's a great b&w subject, an interesting composition, technically ok, but for some reason I can't pinpoint why I'm not excited about it. I think it's just a tad too busy for me. No points deducted for my indecision though.

The all-time classic B/W pattern. Looks like it's been stretched vertically?
06/05/2002 03:42:00 PM
Really nice, you win. Sorry, but I have no constructive remarks. Strong black w/good contrast. (Isn't the subject already in b&w? Doesn't that count?) Photo 10 Creativity 10 B&W 10 total (what else?) 10

Good effect filling the whole frame. Was this taken like this or cropped afterwards?
06/05/2002 12:24:00 AM
Splendid abstract of a something decidedly non abstract! Full marks.
06/04/2002 06:26:00 PM

Excellent abstract.
06/04/2002 04:40:00 AM

06/03/2002 10:32:00 PM
Why the long face? (I crack me up)
06/03/2002 10:27:00 PM
I was almost going to do something similar to this, but ended up with something else...
06/03/2002 08:10:00 PM

06/03/2002 07:49:00 PM

Neat b&w looks a tad bit distorted, but this is a fun shot.
06/03/2002 01:10:00 PM
great cropping
06/03/2002 12:11:00 PM
Very appropriate. I wish the nose was a little clearer. Still, a top 10 photo.
06/03/2002 11:51:00 AM
Cool shot. Wish that it had more contrast between the light and dark stripes.
06/03/2002 11:28:00 AM
Glorious! I love the texture of the skin/fur/ hair!
06/03/2002 10:47:00 AM
I knew it had to be a Zebra, I just wasn't sure until I found the eye.
06/03/2002 08:46:00 AM
Great shot, perfect for black and white. The angle and crop work very nicely too.
06/03/2002 07:01:00 AM
NIce composition. I would have given this a 10 if the focus had been on the eye rather than the hide. (I imagine this is the AF feature at work.) Nice tonal range, Maybe jst a touch flat, looks like its about 8 zones, 9 zones would add a bit.
06/03/2002 01:41:00 AM
Of course, we're not all lucky enough to have a spare Zebra wandering around our back garden:-) Cropped really well, Super subject matter. really captures the challenge criteria.
