Challenge: What is the Matrix? (Classic Editing)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 775
Location: Sydney. Well, it was shot here.
Date: May 17, 2003
Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/10 sec
Galleries: Abstract, Studio
Date Uploaded: May 19, 2003

The setting is a rectangle vase, lying down with a paper doll attached in the bottom. The lighting is a house lamp, setting against wall corner and ceiling. The shot is through the vase with colour balance setting to create the green tone. Post processed in PS by pushing hue to make the tone closer to The Matrix scheme, no cropping.

Greetings from the Critique Club
Hi Trinn!

First of all, I can't believe someone figured out what this was!

Composition
Ok, the composition is a strong area for this shot - it's one of those "holy cow, how'd they do that?!" shots. I like the feel and the way everything looks. I would have cut dude's hair a little straigher but that's just me.

Color
Obviously you said in your comments that you hued it to be more Matrixy and you got it there. Nice neon greens.

Lighting
I wish the top was more like the bottom, actually. I don't like the harsh light on top, but I do love the overall lighting here.

Subject matter
Very nice visualization ahead of time. Excellent use of the Matrix theme.

Overall
Overall so you had a helluva good shot. Excellent finish and nice work. Happy shooting!

That is amazing! You're pretty creative given the props you worked with. How in the world did you visualize this, simply amazing?

the figure (I assume it is a cut out?) has a cartoonish feel to it, I'm really curious as to what is actually the green material -- is it a container of some sort? :)

Nice and creepy. I like it! If you ask me, and i may be entirely wrong, i see a bit of foolery here :) A cutout cardboard figure and one of those industrial glass vases (i used one once for a submission) set on a nice reflective surface such as a highly polished table, glass, or a mirror. Just guessing. Would have liked it more if the top green shape would have been blackish as well to keep my eye on the center. 8

Just saw reloaded tonight - yes you do portray the portal well - is this the bottom of a green bottle with a cut-out Neo? I like the color - the ripples of color eminating from the "door" - a creative interpretation

IT'S GUMBY!!! Just kidding. I love the lighting here. This says Matrix more than a lot of photos on this challenge.

how? Would guess that this was a glass vase or something with an action figure at the bottom. Great pic, nice green colors - 7
