This is one of two photos I'm making the B&W vs. Color statement about. You are more than welcome to flame me once the votings over (although I'd really appreciate it if you didn't -- but I'd be happy to talk about it). Lots of good contrast -- I think maybe too much. The caterpillars just kind of blend into everything else. I wonder if this shot in color is easier to read because you have the colors of the caterpillars to set them apart from the branches and leaves. Perhaps not, I just don't know without being able to see the original. Otherwise, very clean shot -- nice focus and good tones. |

the disgusting wermies blend too much |

great brightness range, but a cluttered image |

The lack of contrast between the subject and the background makes it difficult for the eye to latch on to anything. |

It looks like some kind of alien. This is a pretty busy shot and all the branches are taking me away from the growth thingy in the middle of the photo. There is lots of detail and nice shades of grey in this photo. |

Good piocture, but I think it would have been better if you would have gotten closer to the caterpilars. All the branches and leaves are distracting. |

I think colour would have helped this along. |

A little busy. Needs a focal point for the eye to rest on. |

This is a very busy photo. It took me a while to decide that these are caterpillars (am I right?). |

Too bad they wouldn't wait for a day with a little more diffuse lighting to make your job easier...I thnk maybe I'd have cropped tighter... |

Not enough definition in this photograph for my tastes. Seems kind of all over washed out. |

hard to see what is happening here, would like to have it either lighter or closer to see the details and help distinguish the different objects. |

Absolutely no idea what this. But I like it. Nice tonal range. |

This would make an interesting abstract if it were a little more vague, but as a nature shot I think the subject is completely overwhelmed by the background. Probably shows better in color. Cropped very tight it might work in B/W. Contrast is very good. |

The effect is a little lost in the leaves. |

It's almost too hard to see teh catepillars with all of the limbs. I'm not sure how you could correct that, but they kinda blend in with the branches. |

Nice lighting, but without the color to differentiate, I think the leaves really distract. Cropped in tighter on the caterpillars would have been a lot better, I think. |

The background is very busy and its hard to isolate the subject. |

Neat b&w. Good job. --still it gives me the creeps! |

That just looks nasty. I wish it was closer. |

Subject gets lost amongst the leaves. |

The caterpillar's are lost in the confusion of the branches. If you're going to shoot b/w you need a large distinction between your subject and background. |

I'm sure this is an awesome shot in color (could you post that somewhere after the comp? I would love to see it), but IMO it does not work in b&w. Too busy, too little contrast. |

eeewww hahaa gory a close-up would have been interesting |

Too much clutter, getting closer and/or using shallower depth would have made it better |

Great photo, however, looks very busy to my eyes. Good job though. |

(This is my first comment ever!) I'd like to just say that I feel there is a minor problem with this picture because it all seems to blend in, and I can't really tell what you were trying to do. I've been staring at it for about five minutes now, and I can't decide what it is, and what all the fuzzy things are meant to be. -Annida |

I am able to see this caterpillar nest but it is quite difficult with the bright and dark contrasts throughout the photo... I'm not sure how this could be improved on this particular view... |
