I could not believe the torrential rain that had occured immediately prior to sending my child into a non occupied parking lot in nothing but her rain jacket and rubber boots. Needless to say this was a fun shoot!!

POST Challenge:

For the record (as there were eleventy comments about her head) if you look closely you can see she is looking back at her own reflection. I liked the anonymity of this shot. I liked that it could be applicable to anyone, gloomy gray day and a splash of color. She is saying "hey, it's dull, dreary and raining but *I* am wearing red!"

Also I wanted the colors to be a bit muted. I did not like the more red version of this shot that I had taken. The original was oversaturated (scary oversaturated) and this just fit my rainy day mood a bit better.

Thank you everyone for your comments and kind words. This was a fun challenge to do. My daughter also thanks you as she got to play & jump in the puddles (in fact she just landed when this shot was taken).

See montage created with my versions.

Looking at the montage you posted, if you had used the red version, oversaturated or not, I bet you would have had a top 10 finish! I love this shot but the muted colors probably hurt it in the overall scores. But a great capture and I'm glad to see I'm not the only mom who lets her kids play in puddles, did you teach her how to do it properly like I had to teach my oldest? :)

Great shot

I love this ... how the top portion "begs" for you to go looking at the bottom. And how, looking carefully at the bottom, you can find all of the answers to the questions posed by the top. Wonderfully done... should have scored much higher!

I really like how you caught her footwork. I wonder what her face looks like.

What a great idea! I really like the focus on the reflection rather than including both the girl in reality and her reflection. This keeps the composition much more simple and gives the eye a place to rest. I'm guessing this is selective desaturation? It seems just a tad washed out if that's the case. I like the lightness of it but something seems a bit too flat for my tastes, maybe if the dark areas were richer in their darkness, more contrast or something. Not sure! Either way I think its a great image. I gave a 6.

Not sure if it's raining. I like the perspective & action. Cute shot.

Great idea just colour seems a little washed out (no pun intended)
I would of liked to have seen the legs a little sharper

Love this, I think it would work even better with the red's boosted and the rest desatutrated. Very nice shot 8.

nice use of selective desat, and the rule of thirds. creative and well done...hope it does well :-)

Nice capture - don't care for the border. Good composition and color though.

I would like this pic much better if it included the child's head. I leaves me with a weird feeling without that reference. 5

The best of the "Puddle Stomping" shots in the challenge in my opinion. Good Luck!

neat photo. playing around with the cropping and saturation might have led to some other interesting results.

i understand she was probably looking at her feet stomping the puddles but i wish that her hair was even just a little bit more upright, because att first i thought she didnt have one (sorry if its a wee fella!)

I love the selective desat here. Or is it? 8

Neat. I like the use of reflection as a main point in the composition.

This is a great photo, I think if you rotated it 30 degrees or so - so the boots are upper left and reflection is lower right - it would be a stronger composition. Try it and let me know what you think - or show me - I'd be interested to see. Terrific work though - nice job

Great composition! You can almost feel the "joy" of splashing. My only nitpick is that the knees look a little plastic-y and colorless. There's just enough color to keep it from being bw, but not enough to look like the healthy child that it seems to be.

This is great, but I would have liked to see the head (in the reflection) - it is spooky without a head :)

Great use of reflection and interesting cropping. I think I quite like the lack of head - creates an abstract and anonymous feel. Selective desat works too.

I like the soft color you chose. Nice reflection photo :)

with the head a higher score, and needs more contrast
