Perhaps you should read beyond the comma....I was talking of the date and the modern items not matching.

Uhhh!?!?!?
Review:
Challenge: Time Capsule
Details: Take a shot that depicts an era in time. Your title should be the year that you are trying to capture for future generations.

You misread my post. I was commenting about modern items left in shots clearly meant to be in the past. If the title says 1836, nothing from 2005 should show up, I believe.

I was commenting on the chairs, not the year, you misread my post.

Just to explain the "folding chairs". This was a cabin built in 1836 around the area which is now called Grapevine. It was renovated and transplanted to downtown Grapevine and is now a historical landmarker. There are live music festivals and that is where the chair's came into the picture. At the time I took the picture's I thought about moving them, but was not sure if we were able. Now of course I wish I did.

Thanks for all the votes and comments. This is by far the most comments I have ever received.

The modern folding chairs kill the time period for me.

~ Edited because people misread my earlier post.

A nice shot. I can't really tell, but are those metal folding chairs on the porch? Also, for me, it's a bit...too brownish, perhaps a little less saturated? (I'm new to this, and just my naive opinion)

5 - I do like the potential of this shot, and in my opinion you have met the Challenge in respect that a photo of this (barring what I am about to say in the criticism) would depict this era well for future generations if put into a time capsule. Criticism; I just wish those chairs were not on the porch. It was the second thing I saw when I first looked at this shot. I really like the style of the cabin(?) and think you have captured it fairly well, but I would like to have seen a slightly different angle. Either more side on perhaps, or else front on. It seems a touch out of focus to me, but that may be because of the woodwork, not sure. Like to see none of the 'porch' cut off (as in that right side), a full view of the chimney without the tree blocking it, and somehow 'hiding' what looks like (could be wrong) a concrete path, for 'true authenticity'. The sepia(?) does work well, but may attribute to the 'blurring/softening' I mentioned. Of course that could be what you were going for, in that case, perhaps more grain and more 'old' feel. But given the seemingly simple colors that are there, I wonder if the color shot would have done well, even with some grain etc added for 'aged' effect. I just like this shot, but think it has more potential than you have captured. Ok up to 6 from 5. Definitely 7 without those chairs (but I know you perhaps could not have moved them - and if they ARE 'authentic 1836', excuse me).

Are you telling me they had folding metal chairs in 1836?

hmmm, did they really have metal folding chairs in 1836? :-P

I think this would be more effective if it didn't have later generations' metal chairs folded on the porch. I do like the sepia.

OOF, but the sepia tone and overexposed look is fitting here. I don't believe, though, that they had metal folding chairs in the 1830's.

Quibble: I don't believe that there were folding chairs in 1836.

I think the white, blown-out sky detracts from the old, sepai-tinted look you were going for. It looks out of place in this photograph and attracts attention away from the house (at least my eye tends towards the bright sky more than the dull colors of the house).

Good try.

Are those folding metal chairs? Without those I would have believed 1836

This is a beautiful log structure. For more authenticity, I would have hidden the folding chairs.

Like the picture but the metal chairs kind of ruin the feel of the era you are trying to convey.
