Good work! The concept itself is visually successful. If I may add a little criticism you could have paid more attention to the books in the background and had them match up better. Also, you can see the armatures hand behind the actual foreground one. This I felt hurt your technical attention to detail and proficiency being that it's the one element that really sells the illusion. I was a digital photo clean up artist for some time so, I notice these things. You have great skills already and apparently great visual concepts. If you apply those other things that I mentioned you'll be on the right path. Good luck to you in the future! |

Thank you all for your great comments.
I searched the internet for photo illusions and tricks and found this page //www.flickr.com/photos/w00kie/sets/180637/
So I began with taking a photo of this setup with the hand using my brother as a model. Do not wear any long sleeves since it makes part 2 more difficult. Then I uploaded the image into the laptop, put the laptop in place and adjusted the image through the viewfinder of the camera to find out if things matched. Then my brother put on a shirt with long sleeve and took care not to show any part of the hand. I adjusted the hand according to the perspective of the viewfinder and "click".
It is necessary to put the camera on a tripod or somewhere where it is stable and won't move.
I was not happy about lot of things i.e. the position of the laptop image is to low, the lighting is terrible (500W handheld halogen right above scene), image not very sharp and the composition isn̢۪t that great but it got me no. 7 so me happy ;-)
This takes some practice but I dare you all to try because the final product looks great as desktop wallpaper and family, friends and/or coworkers will scratch their heads till they become bald trying to figure this one out. |

I'm a sucker for these. I saw one with a cat in it once that was nicely done. This is excellent. |

the background detracts from the image. Overall, im just not too impressed with this shot. IT could use better lighting, and it just doesnt have a wow factor for me. |

we went for similar ideas. I like that you incorporated more elemnts into your screen to match up with the background. The sleeve into the hand on the screen is also a great touch. The wood desktop surface does't really compliment the image, though. overall, well done. |

Very original take on the challenge! Wanna see how you got the arm to blend with the hand! Too bad your laptop image is so flat in color... I know you wanted it darker, but the hand don't look quite right. Your lighting is a little harsh on the background too.

Got my eyes messes up - well done!
Think I just figured it out too - hand was image on screen, shirt sleeve had no hand in the shot. Congrats on pulling this off nicely (8) |

Well thought out, and composed, I bet this took some setting up.
I would like to see some more use of lighting to lift the image |

I don't know how you people come up with these things! :) I was impressed, well done! I just wish the focus was a bit more crisp. |

Very nice illusion! Well done!
The red is a bit dominant, combined with the yellow makes it ver warm, almost stuffy. |
|
|
08/08/2005 09:58:52 PM |
shouldnt the arm be reaching...behind...the monitor to give complete the idea? 6 for cool idea |

Very creative and appears to be a complicated set-up. Everything lines up perfectly. Good execution of this illusion. 10 |

|
08/08/2005 08:36:57 AM |
very cool. I don't like the lighting has too much of a snapshot feel. 7 |

|
08/08/2005 06:37:39 AM |
Great illusion, color is good, lighting is a little harsh in the upper left corner. |
|
|
08/08/2005 05:59:24 AM |
Very well thought out and executed shot. I'm stumped as to how you created the arm - great job. |

Neat picture! I bet it was pretty hard to do!?!? |
|
|
08/08/2005 04:19:40 AM |
This is a fantastic idea, unfortunately I would have liked better light setup, and more detail/sharpness. But you nailed the image on the PC :-) Very cool 8 |

Well done illusion. Had to look at this one for a while to figure it out. Looking forward to reading your description. |

brilliant! Color seems a little strange but since alll monitors are different (as seen in this image)... this idea and execution are great! 9 |

Grumble... growl... I can figure out how you did the stuff BEHIND the screen (I think), but I can't figure out how you did the hand in front. This will be an interesting read, post challenge. |

Not an original idea, but a great version. |
