I was shooting a pond near my house, that I often drive by, and not getting anything that I really liked. So as I am getting in the car to leave, I look back through the trees on the other side of the road and saw this. I took one shot, then went out to shoot some horses at MSU. Forgot about it until I was going through some pics and decided to work on this one.
It is an appealing little scene to me, but I think people may see it as one of those 'nice, but subject-less photos', not very interesting. I don't know.
I knew right away I wanted to put the gaussian blur on, so in the edit, I went way up on sharpness, contrast, and trying to get a strong range of lights to darks.
anyways, thanks for checking out my pic

That could be something a famous artist painted....without a doubt. Nice job. |

i like the autmn colours. and the relaxation state it puts you in. it makes me wants to lay at the edge of the grass by the pond and read a good book or take a nap. i hope it is not too swampy cause i could really use a nap! should i bring bug spray |

Have to strongly disagree with your comment, "nice, but subject-less photos." I think you have very strong subject and a very good photo. I think without the edits, you're statement would probably be correct. Keep up the good work!
The thumbnail definately does not do it justice!

Beautiful autumn colors in a very serene setting. It's really nice and I think the GB works well. It really does look like a painting. Nice job. |

I really like this 'nice but subject-less photo'. I think the blur is what makes the shot. Although, a couple of ducks or crane standing in teh water may help, I think it's great as-is. Very nice! |

Wow, I really like the effect you've created here. It almost looks more like a fine painting than a photograph and that really appeals to me. I like the way the grass and trees frame the shot nicely. I think you are right about it being the kind of shot that many would tag as being subject-less. That's OK... let them do so. Those people are the ones that can't see the world for what it really is... a wealth of hidden beauty seeking discovery and this is what you've captured here. A hidden corner of the world. Serene, beautiful, and waiting to be appreciated. They say boring, I say WELL DONE!

nice work, gene. very nice. you might consider underexposing a bit when faced with this type of shot, just so you get a little more detail in the branches and leaves that touch the sky. |

Wow, tater - what a variety of colors! It's like an image from a children's storybook. Very nicely done, I think. |
