I gave this an 8 while voting was on. Why? First I felt it fit the challenge (seems to be harder to do for some) and I liked how clean the shot looked. I feel the train is well represented and the surroundings are unique. I think having the road in this shot actually helps it, the train and road are following the same path. The freeway / parking lights in the upper left are a bit distracting but not too bad IMO. Good job, hope to see more from you in the future!

I like this photo. It is very nicely done. In the thread where you asked if people saw the train, I think that some may have not. I am by far not a expert, but just looking at this picture, my eyes drift to the brightly light road. I wonder what the shot would look like if the road was cropped out. Then the lines would lead me to the train.

The lesson to be learned here is that lines and their placement mean something in a photograph. This is why composition and prevision are so vital to the move beyond technically correct photography.

To explain my 8 is that there is a lot to see in this photo, perhaps too much. The few things that bother me are all the lights at top and the one sign showing through the trees on the left. If you had a star filter and used it then it would improve the shot drastically. It also looks as you were on a bridge. I think if possible it would have been better at a lower POV just to block out all those lights in the background.

Edit: for getting the left and right crossed. sorry

I see the train, and saw the train, but there is so much visual clutter it's the last thing my eye moves to in the photo. I look at the freeway first as the brightest part of the image, then I wander over to the truck trailers, then at the interesting "blurry wall" - when I realize that's the trick.

I didn't vote on this photo, simply ran out of time. But I did see it during the challenge. I would have given it a 4 because it looks like a snapshot to me. A tighter crop might have helped, but the composition just doesn't work for me.

go down to that road and try it again. I'd like to see what you can do from down there. Hope that's helpful.

Thats great motion blur, particularly with the curve in the rail, I would like to have seen the train composed to be dominant in the frame, the well lighted street tends to draw the eye. Also more exposed to show a little more light on the blur.

I like this. I gave it a 7. Can't really articulate what it is that I like about it, but I'm definitely drawn to the street on the right. It seems to quiet and deserted, though it looks like a place you wouldn't want to be late at night. It's also very crisp for a long exposure and the darkness doesn't bother me. It feels balanced to me.

At first glance I saw this as a night shot and mistook the train as a wall - the lights became the focus of attention, so the impact was lost on me.

sweet how it makes that fake wall.
