Well I learned a lot doing this photo. The Idea was to have a black background so the camera was set to minimum aperture and aperture priority mode and the flash was used. I also wanted a few star bursts in the highlights. The main idea was that only things close up with lots of light on them would show up. I did this in my garage with the door open and used the blackness of night as my background. Well I learned highly reflective things need lots of stuff around them to reflect so they show up. The wrench is much more visible in the test shots I did with the garage door closed and lights on. I needed something white above the wrench but out of frame to reflect some of the flash off of.

Post Processing:
Crop
Curves (used this to pull the very dimly lit cars in my drive way down into the inky darkness).

Thanks for all the positive comments. My best placing to date; though I̢۪ve only entered two challenges. I was trying to depict changing the in a car or bike; hence the wrench the just removed the drain plug. Of course I staged this with dirty oil out of my oil catch jug, I wasn̢۪t really under a car. The oil was used but not very; the last thing I drained was a crashed motorcycle that had been sitting for 3 years but had just had an oil change prior to a track crash. I would have liked to have added a red oil filter sitting in the pan, I think the red, yellow & black would have been very striking.

WOW, great idea for the challenge! I like the DOF and how you've captured the oil running into the pan. The only thing I would suggest is maybe lighting the wrench a bit more. Other than that a great photo! 7

the fact that you cut off the bottom makes this image much less aesthetically pleasing to me. otherwise its alright. im sure itll do well becase everything with liquid in it does really well. I'll give you 6.

Good one. The clarity of the oil dripping is really well done. I wonder if you'd be able to appreciate it more with a white background?? The yellow makes a nice vivid contrast to the black.

Oh, this is different...and neat. I am fond of the little lens flare in the oil stream, as well as the overall composition.
