For the weather challenge we had nothing but blue skies for a week, and for this one we've had nothing but rain for a week. Somebody is doing this on purpose I swear!

Nipped up the road to Rivington in a rare dry spell but had great difficulty getting a decent shot. I was trying to capture the rural nature of my town, see the 'Over Chorley' shot in my portfolio for the shot I wanted to recreate & enter.

This is such a great composition, it's a shame the sharpness didn't come out well. The trees in the foreground help bring attention to the buildings.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Bod...

Your subject choice for the challenge is excellent. I love these quaint little inns that dot the countryside. These are available in the states, but they don't seem to be as popular in our culture.

I think the composition you chose here is just about perfect... I love the trees lining the foreground in this shot. The only thing that concerns me here is the image quality. The 602z should be putting out sharper images than this. I'm not sure what happened, but the sharpness is weak. Other than that, everything looks good in this image...

Keep up the good work :)

Must be England!! Never been to Chorley before, it looks pretty rural though. I like the Old English countryside effect you've created, you have a good eye.

I read that forum thread and then your profile so i know who did this :) I find this shot warm and endearing. I guess one of the purposes of a postcard is that the recipient wished he/she could visit there. Yes, this postcard makes me want to visit Chorley so you have accomplished your mission! I like the vantage point from which you took this shot as it gives a glimpse of the country and thus enables the viewer to "guess" the whole feeling of the countryside over there. Movies and books where the ending leaves room for a lot of speculation, or are unresolved, are often much more interesting than those where it is all spelled out for the 'dumb' audience.
And yeah, i can say something about cropping out the road there but you took the shot and made that decision because there was something less desireable on the left that you wanted to keep out at all cost. And next to that road is that lovely tree. Also, that road leads my fantasy right into my speculative countryside wanderings so it's actually a good thing it is there. I appreciate pictures that inspire me to dream away; this one does. 8

sadly too out of focus to really get a feel for the quaint countriness of this little inn.

Beautiful!

nice job of showing the Inns surrounding (as opposed to taking a close up of the buildings only). The building seem off (looks like too much unsharp mask, or something). Still a very effective shot. Jacko.

Such a lush landscape. I would like to stay there! Nice choice of font, too.

Lovely. Looks a bit cut off on the left side, tight crop. Nice shot, looks great.
