*Greetings from the Critique Club*
First I think this met the Macro V Challenge well. In a challenge full of flower shots, this one did stand out on a number of levels. The water droplets are great, as are the colors.
Composition
Very nice, although the shadows on the left are a little distracting. I like the crop with the exception of the long stamen/stigma that's out of focus.
DOF
Great except for the long stamen/stigma that's out of focus. The water droplets could also be just a tad sharper, but that's hardly noticeable.
Lighting
With the exception of the harsh shadows on the left, I think the lighting is good. Nice highlights on the water droplets on the petals.
Color
Really fiery, inspiring a strong mood/feeling in the viewer. The color is one of the best aspects of this shot (IMHO).
WOW
Not a whole lot of "wow" to the image, BUT it stands on its own (and in the challenge) quite well. It has a lot of emotional appeal and is very pleasing to the eye.
Overall
Very nice job. A 5.5 ain't bad at all - especially given the intense competition in the Macro V Challenge. Good work!
Just my 2 cents...

Beautiful. The long stamen adds balance to the composition, keeping it from being static. |

Looking into the vulcano. I like the fiery punch but I dislike the hard shadows on the left. |

Very good detail on this shot! The shadow from the stamen is a little distracting. Colors look really nice! |

Nice colors, focus and texture. Interesting perspective in a challenge full of simular shots. |

8 - Again, another photo good enough that it doesn't matter if it has a title or not. For me though, a slightly different angle (to the left where the focal point is sharpest) would make this a much better photograph. More detail on those drops on the stamen would be nice. The stigma is out of focus, so perhaps crop that out, as the 'mushroom' like 'anthers' do look good. A fraction more focus on those main points perhaps. The shadow of the stamens is nice and again, if the picture were 'nudged' to the right a fraction, they would be the 'stars' of this picture. Very nice though and good colors. |

I think this is the best stamen shot in the challenge. It's crisp and the detail is wonderful. The coloration is very well done - great shadowing to the left. Love the water droplets. 9 |
