That's because one must see "into" the tree to see the circle. It takes an eye not trained by established principles.

I had taken a few shots like this and chose not to submit because they're not complete circles. Fungi are fun to shoot though, and overall this is a great shot... I just don't fit it so well into the challenge. Your shot and my shot would both do very well in the Macro challenge.
