I swear, most people just are not artsy. This is the most exquisite photo of the challenge. I think it should have won the blue. |

Pretty cool stuff, Like those great HUGE lashes and their detail. I think the square crop does not enhance what it is you might want me to see in this. My eye has a bit of problem getting past the area on the right....it gets there eventually, but not immediately because of it. It may have been unavoidable in shooting due to the movement of your subject, but it could have been lessened by a strong crop in from the right. |

Wonderful macro. Incredibly sharp where it needs to be. Like the soft background. Rich, realistic color. Nice eye...you can take that both ways : ). |

Very cool colors in the eye. I guess I didn't realize that a horse's pupil wasn't round. Interesting DOF...really shows off the eye. |

The images that always suffer from a lack of comments are the ones that are right in the middle ground. Everyone comments on the awesome shots. Some comment on the bad shots. But the middle ones, very few people say anything. So here I am to explain why I voted a 5:
Actually, you pretty much have me stumped on this one! This image has several of the classic examples of what makes a macro or close-up: larger-than-life image, shallow depth of field, sharpness where it needs to be, etc.
So what's wrong? Again, I'm having a hard time figuring that out. I think it has something to d with the eye. I like how the eyelashes are sharp. I like how the hair under the eye is sharp. But the eye keeps bugging me and I don't know why. It makes it hard to look at the image for some reason.
So while I can't fully justify giving a 5 ... I'm having a hard time justifying giving a 6 in spite of the "macro aspects" that I do like about the image. Perhaps this is my least helpful comment of the bunch... I hope maybe it helps a little. (and in the end, my 5 will probably only matter for about 1/300th of the score anyway, but now you have some comments that might be worth more than just the score)

Not the most flattering view of a horse, but it is an interesting view & a technically very crisp image. And it's not a flower or bug. 7 |

8 - I really like this photo and the eye/lash detail and color. A tighter crop, cutting out some 'nose' would have been better. Not sure if title is deliberate or sp. |

Shallow DOF works well to focus attention on the beautiful eye and lashes. Lovely crop - really perfect. |

The eye needs to be just a tad further over to the right. I'd like to see less of the horses nose and more of that bokeh background. Moving it over would also give the eye some room to look into |

Oh this is super. No distracting background. The angle of the shot is perfect. Man, talk about wonderful eye coloration. The eyelashes make it. Perfect lighting. I say 10 !!!! |
