Great photo:-) You did with your eye photo what I could not with mine. Capture their imagination. You did a better job of getting the clarity right on the eye as well. Thanks for the tip of breaking a CD case for the glass effect. It works and I will definitely be stealing that idea :-) Great photo again :-)

I'm glad this shot placed 4th, but I really feel that it should have placed higher. For me, it ranked right up there with the shot of the kid with the umbrella. You definitely deserved a ribbon. Nice job! |

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. I totally didn't expect this shot to do so well when I submitted it, but I'm glad it did. My original concept for this shot was to take a framed piece of glass and shoot it with a bb gun to crack it up a bit and shoot a picture of a person through the broken glass, preferably outdoors. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to put things together for that so I modified it at the last minute late Sunday afternoon. I cracked a plastic CD jewel case with a hammer and took some shots through that. I started with the whole face, then a profile, and finally after about 3 or 4 different sessions of taking pictures and seeing what they looked like, I decided to focus in on the eye area. Since the lighting in my apartment is pretty dark, I used a Canon Speedlight 420ex external flash to light the shot. If I had more time and a more patient model, I would have fixed a few things, especially the lack of detail in the eye itself and the one crack/highlight that goes right through the eye. I did, however, make a concious decision to leave the border on the right side of the shot. I thought it framed it better and added some life to the black.
Anyway, thanks again for the comments. |

The solomn expression and the broken glass go together to make ones imagination build a story. GReat B/W shot. |

Great composition. I like the use of Black & White. Interesting photo. |

Very nice. Only two "I wish" comments: First is that the streak/scratch/crack that's running through her eye wasn't there. Second, that we didn't have the edge of the glass/plexiglass over on the right hand side -- I almost took it for another crack -- maybe even if it had a cracked edge, instead? |

Very nice....One of my top 10 photos this week and just missed getting a 10 if I could have seen a little more light/detail in the eye...When a photo is so good but leaves me just wanting a little more...I give you a 9.... |

The skin tone seems a little off to me. |

Really neat. I love the detail in the eyelashes, and the black negative space, as well as the way that the cracks in the glass frame the eye. Good job. |

people in glass houses shouldn't submit photos of whores. |

Nice idea, well shot. My only thing is that I would've placed the eye on a more clear part of the broken glass. |

I think the positioning of the face here could have been done better. Because the eye and eyebrow are the main point of interest in the photo, I would have preferred to have seen them without any cracks over them. Would have cropped the edge of the window too. |

Very emotive. I like the way some of the cracks run parallel to the eyebrow. |

VERY nice, there is alot of "interest" in this photo. My only problem is, I have consistantly downgraded others for small parts of people shots (mostly lame efforts), but this is soo good! You get an exception. Photo 10 Creativity 10 People 8 (minus only 2 for very partial person) total 9 (all the other partials got 5 or less) |

Creative photo .... nice use of b&w ... I know you cant do this for the challenge, but try leaving the eye in color ... would give an interesting look. |

I really like the composition on this shot, and the fact that it stands out from the rest of them. This would be a good picture for a creative writing class to write a story about, I think. It's a little bright on the left side. |

This photo is fabulous! When I first looked at it, I could not tell what it was. Thought it was cobwebs stuck to someone's face. When I realized it was broken glass I was looking through, I was blown away. Fantastic job! |

interesting. I like the cracked plastic infront of the face. Shame the focus is on that rather than the eye though. Creative attempt. |

Interesting framing of the broken glass around your subjects face. I hope it wasn't broken with the impact of your subject..... I gave you a 9. Nice shot. |

Fantastic shot - love the way the scratches in the glass match up with the features. Just can't decide about the catchlight in the eye - intially I didn't like it but then tried to imagine the shot without it and I think it should stay. |

Sort of a descent-into-madness feel. Like the silhouetting, the highlight in the eye and the individual eyelashes. Good use of very cold tone. Good use of zone system. |
