Photographer’s Notes
One of my favorite sayings is “The future is already here. It’s just unevenly distributed.” I guess fantasy can be unevenly distributed as well. This is a photo of the London skyline. The Tower of London is in the foreground. And one of London’s newest buildings (affectionately know as the Gherkin) rises in the background.

Post Processing
This was pretty much out of the camera. My editing strategy was to separate the sky from the buildings and do a little level work to add drama to the sky and to brighten up and improve the contrast in the slightly washed out buildings. Specifically:
Clone out a few distractions
Select sky (save selection)
Levels
Select buildings (save selection)

Reduce noise (Neat Image)

Nice composition, good colors and good general image technical quality. It does not have overexposed areas, applies good the rule of thirds well with the modern structure and the dramatic clouds add interest to the composition.

You might consider using light dodging to slightly brighten the far left side of the frame on the darkened portion of the building to keep it from drawing attention away ffrom the rest of the image.

Good image. Should get a decent score.

I loke this shot and I love the bright blue coming through the dark clouds. I am glad this shot was validated. Not sure why it seems more shots are being challenged. I see skies like this almost every day in Florida (if that is why it was challenged). Anyway, great job.

The Gherkin Building! A DPC challenge favourite ;)

Lovely paradox here, that building is pretty fantasy worldish by itself, and I think you've emphasized that feel with the inclusion of a the more traditional structure in the foreground.

Good luck with the challenge!

Looks like the gherkin again. How much trouble was it to get the sky like that, I was told it was nice in London last week. It works, great contrasts.

Quite extraordinary, that soemthing in real life could be such a classic sci fantasy juxtaposition.

"The Gherkin" is a great choice this challenge, and you picked a good angle. Having to validate the photo is pretty funny, says something about just what crazy architecture this is! 8

Where's the location for this? I've seen this before (I think). Definitely looks fantasy worldlike. Almost a shame to see the modern building put into that scene. The darkness of the top layer of clouds detracts a little from the picture itself, I would dodge it just a bit to not make it quite so dark, and give it a more even coloration with the rest of the sky.

I immediately thought of the title -"ready for take off". Very interseting shot.
