Funny to think that we spent about 2 hours setting this up and shooting different tries and it only score a 5.5 (better then in the 4s, true), and a photo like this is just taken on a whim mid-run. Still it was fun to do, looking forward to more of your photos in some challenges/portfolio =). |

I really like this photo, Mr. Robinson--it's going into my favs.
My only nitpick (I hate that word!) is that it might be nicer to have the candles and the model a bit bigger, so they fill more of the frame. But then, I guess the challenge *was* Darkness...
Anyways. I like it! |

Outstanding clarity. Good tonal range. B&W is a good choice of presentation. You are to be commended for including very, very faint detail. Interesting way to convey the idea of darkness.
The outstanding photographic quality is the strength of your image. Most viewers will understand it fits the challenge, but there will be a few that do not.
The rightmost candle is a little overexposed which will hold down your score slightly.
Overall this is an outstanding image that should score decently if studied closely by viewers.

Would have liked the subject to be a bit bigger |

The people taking quick looks and voting might miss the face. Nice shot though. |

This is a nice idea. I think compositionally, the photo perhaps would be stronger if a majority of either the top or bottom were cropped out, placing the subject near the top or bottom edge of the image. |

I like the idea for this one. I think this would look better if you used more than just the light from the candles. you would want to expose for the candle and then light the rest according to what is needed to make the flames look good. I would simply set up a spot light from the floor and hit the models face with it. If you wanna get more fancy, you could also set up another spot to hit just the tops of the candle stands. and use a half scrim to sorta slowly shade the light, so it looks like i fades into darkness and is coming form the candle wicks. |

This photo would probably benefit from closer cropping. |

Base Score 5
Great Lighting/Good composition/Great processing +1
Total Score 6
Took me a second to focus on this one due to a little reflection on my monitor...but it's a great shot...I would maybe crop a little of the lower blackness to put the candles on a 'third' mark...otherwise very nicely done |

Nice & eerie. The fact that the altar(?) is apparent in the background is a little distracting; I would have preferred just the candles & the model. Nonetheless, good effort. |

Very interesting composition. Great focus on the face I think. It's hard tot ell for sure because it's so small. I think the use of negative space was a tad bit overused here. A little less would be so much more...
