Very pretty shot. Love the lone heron (?). Of course the date stamp needs to be gone. I was criticized on my flora shot because it was said by one that the subject was more the background/sunset. I think that there is fauna here, it is just a beautiful backdrop. Just as if someone set one up in their studio. Great shot

Beautiful sunset but the subject is too small. Advisable to set the camera print date to off.
04/28/2003 07:44:33 PM
This heron does indeed have the focus here, well besides the date. Nice mood established.
04/27/2003 10:56:08 PM
lovely but for the timestamp!
04/27/2003 06:49:24 AM
The date in the in corner spoils it completely... :(
04/26/2003 11:19:43 AM
Sunset is beautiful, you may want to try turning off your date on your settings, would impove the image greatly without that there.
04/26/2003 10:45:25 AM
straighten the horizon
04/26/2003 08:11:03 AM
For this challenge the bird really is too small. And you really would have done better to crop out the date.
04/26/2003 04:22:46 AM
Gorgeous sunset, especially with the bird, framed perfectly. The date is ditracting.
04/25/2003 10:23:21 PM
Almost great! I love the color and tonal balance. You should rotate it to get the horizon horizontal. The embedded date is also a distraction.
04/25/2003 03:51:41 PM
this is a really nice photo (except for the date). i think it would have benefitted from some rotation to the right to get the horizon horizontal. i don't know if you could have moved to the right and gotten the bird in the suns reflection in the water, but that would have been very cool.
04/25/2003 02:36:10 AM
The date!!!!
04/24/2003 05:12:26 PM
The date is a nice touch!

Suggest you read your camera's manual to exclude that on the next submission.
04/24/2003 03:13:41 PM
loose the date please, otherwise a good photo, I love the colors
04/24/2003 11:58:22 AM
Nice siluette. Did you try a verticle, I see another great shot.
04/24/2003 10:24:09 AM
i had to subtract a point because of the time stamp
04/24/2003 08:11:53 AM
The example of fauna is rather small, and it would be better without the date. Other than that, the picture is nice, although the horizon is tilted (easily fixed).
04/24/2003 06:24:00 AM
fix that horizon and get that date off the picture and you've got a winner
04/24/2003 12:51:19 AM
You'll probably hear this a lot but please turn off the datestamp! It really drags the eye away from the subject of the pic!

It's a nice shot but perhaps you could have got closer in - it would be hard to pin this down to a theme of 'fauna' if I didn't already know what the challenge was.
04/23/2003 10:27:02 PM
Your fauna subject is small but it is there so you met the challenge. That is one awesome sunset you captured though.
04/23/2003 05:44:47 PM
look, the loch ness monster! did you find out what animal it was?
04/23/2003 05:35:48 PM
nice scenery, but would like to see the bird closer up
04/23/2003 04:53:20 PM
This is a really nice photo. I like how the bird, while small, is still the center of this image. It really shows the bird in its natural habitat. The horizon is tilted, unfortunately. I'm hoping the date imprinting was accidental, it is really out of place here. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt = ) - 8 - Mav
04/23/2003 04:46:29 PM
this is really nice! i wish that the shore line was leveled (rotation one degree to the right would've fixed that) and there was no date on this picture... i subtracted 2 points for that, so you got 8 from me...
04/23/2003 03:02:59 PM
I don't like the date-stamp feature. Really takes away from a pleasant photo.
04/23/2003 10:03:29 AM
I'm sure you're hearing the same things over & over... the image is tilted to the left a bit, and you should definitely turn off the date thing :)
04/23/2003 09:37:32 AM
This is a beautiful photo. But please, TURN OFF THE DATE FUNCTION, or CROP IT OUT. The photo is ruined with yellow numbers across the bottom of it!!!
04/23/2003 08:50:51 AM
I like the calm peaceful feeling of this photo, but it appears the sunset, as well as, the setting are the main focus here and not bird which is small and obscured by uneven underexposure.
04/23/2003 08:23:52 AM
should of have croped the date out of there... Good pic, the lonely bird is strangely obvious inspite of it's size within the frame.
04/23/2003 07:50:14 AM
Beautiful picture, wrong challange?
04/23/2003 05:31:20 AM
This is a good idea for a picture. There are a few things that would make it better. The horizon could be more level, the subject (crane, heron, duck?) could be less central and larger.

If possible I would have moved more to the left, keeping the glare on the water in about the same position but this would shift the bird to the right.
04/23/2003 05:26:21 AM
The date stamp rather obviously detracts - wonder if it might have been worth contacting someone from the site council to ask if a dispensation to allow you to remove it could have been agreed. Nice scene - though the un-horizontal horizon annoys a little
04/23/2003 01:44:02 AM
You need to disable the date stamp for submitting photos.
04/22/2003 10:27:29 PM
ah.. you're probably getting a lot of this, but try to turn off the date stamp on your camera. it really throws off the whole photo. to save this, try cropping it out.
04/22/2003 10:03:09 PM
Why is there a date in the picture! And the picture is titled to the left. It's a really good pic other then that, although the animal is way to small.
04/22/2003 09:31:18 PM
Beautiful image, but the fauna isn't quite prominent enough for my taste.
04/22/2003 09:26:30 PM
I know that you'll get a lot of comments on this and sorry about that...but you must turn off the date stamp on your camera. This is a BEAUTIFUL photo, but I know that it will not score as it should because everyone will pick on the time stamp.
04/22/2003 08:37:09 PM
[Comment only] Oh boy, that date really ruins a promising picture. Disable that feature the next time you want to shoot to submit to DPC. Another thing to look out for would be making the horizon perfectly horizontal. Your exposure is good here, as are focus and composition. However, the bird is so small in the frame that this image really is more of a landscape than a fauna picture.
04/22/2003 08:07:44 PM
The text is a big detractor on what might've otherwise been a great picture, albeit a bit sparse in fauna.
