Yes, inspired by the Green Day song :-)
I still can't believe I got this shot out of my crappy little camera. The street is very well lit, and the wet pavement from the rain provided some helpful reflection I think. Went down to shoot it about 3:30 am, to make sure it was deserted, but the rain continued to drizzle down. The shot overall may be improved by a person or something to add as a focal point, but for this challenge what I was trying to go for was the empty lifeless streets of the night. I did a lot of minute tweaking in ps, and went through many different edits to get close to my 'vision'.
In ps -- cropped, channel mixer to go b/w, levels adj, bright/contrast adj., resized and added border, usm.

A song that always gives me goosebumps.
Definately what darkness would have ment for me.
I love the rough feel to this shot.
Thank you for not having one of those "perfect" night shots, with the little star around the light and very sharp focus.

The perspective and lines in this composition are excellent. Use of B&W is good.
Your choice of a grainy appearence will trigger thinking in many voters that you did it to mask a poor quality image particularly since the focus is very soft to begin with. This would score higher if it were razor sharp with a little less contrast to show good tonal greys between the lamplight and the black of the sky. |

| Nice use of noise, however, the photo needs a point of interest to really make the scene meaningful. |
