I captured this while visiting with my family this past weekend. I would have loved to spend more time and attempt a better shot (with more of the baby chicks visible) but there were a million people (honest!) around, and I couldn't get a clean shot without being extremely pushy... not to mention that everyone around was becoming annoyed with me and my request to give me a moment to get a clean shot!

Technical:
Taken indoors in a wooden crate lined with straw. Lighting was under a 100W single-bulb incandescent lamp; no flash.

Post processing involved a minor crop; changed HSL 0/+25/-5 to impart slightly warmer colors.

Great idea but not clear enough.

Can't tell what this is.

I like the composition alot, as well as, the circle of light around the newborn chick, but find that it's hard to discern the face from the rest of the body of the chick. Also, I wish the highlight on the chicks body could be toned down and the straw on the chick's face was removed.

This is a great image. And the most touching that i have seen yet. Wonderful job!

The lighting and framing are superb, but I can't really tell what it (they?) are. I'm guessing 3 baby chicks, but I wish I could see more detail on them.

nice lighting and focus, although i wish that i could see a face to add to the photo - as it is, its tough to identify the details of each chick.

Adorable. Beautiful lighting and composition, and I also really like the frame. A couple of hot spots from the spot light, (really hard exposure situation to deal with with a digital camera, I know) but other than that, it's perfect. 9

Normally I'm not keen on borders but this one works - gives the shot a more cosy feel. I like the way you've captured the subjects off-centre too - is this the rule of thirds in action? A nice pic but it's a pity you can't make out a little more of their features.

i like the lighting on this, but I wish we could discern the chicks a bit easier. Somehow I doubt they took direction well though!

I had to really look at this one to figure out what they where. cute little things, but one has a hot spot, and them together really distracts from the overall detail that there is three of them. maybe more sharpness or waiting for another shot with thwm in a different position. Like the composition.

Ahhh sweet! Good pic. The light looks like a spotlight on the chicks giving their performance, clever!

I can't tell what that is. The lighting is really cool, with the black in the upper right, but I can NOT tell what the subject is at all.
