this is a lonely frog I came along while walking home at Saturday night. He seemed sad like me in the dark.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not understanding the connection of a frog to the darkness challenge. In this case, I'm not finding that the centered composition works well. Perhaps placing your subject at a rule of thirds intersection would help. The subject (frog) is also kind of small in the frame. The background doesn't seem to contribute much to the image, you could try filling the frame more with the subject, or if that is beyond your camera's capability for such a small subject, try finding a larger subject to shoot.

Flash makes this a bit harsh looking, didn't quite like the composition either.

I find the frog too centered. The angle on the division between the metal and the concrete is good. Flash seems to be a bit on the strong side too.

I'm afraid I don't relate to the darkness you're trying to convey here. In general, I find the composition a bit uninspired - what are you trying to say with the frog being alone? Is it loneliness? Ugliness? Both? Being little in a big world? Being drab in a colorful world? Any of those could be dark related but I can't see your vision at the moment. I think the focus is pretty good, the lighting is decent, though could be better. I would have to say that the biggest improvement would be an evident purpose in the composition. That said, it could just be me as a random viewer who is missing something obvious, which wouldn't be the first time. I can only go with what I see/interpret so I gave a 3.
