The focus on the borders around the shadows is too soft.

Oh, the darkness under the bed! thought this was a Peter Rabit ad at first.

Ah, yes... the monster under the bed theme. Good idea. the image itself is low contrast that gives it a washed out look. Well composed but has a "it is a setup but I really don't want it to look like a setup" look. LOL

I would have used a scary story book with monsters to convey darkness here, unless the child does have a fear of Peter Rabbit, but the idea is good. Looks out of focus too, unless that's what you wanted?

I can very much identify with the idea behind this image if you're point is the mysterious darkness under the bed. I was certain I had something living under mine when I was younger. Unfortunately I'm finding the image a bit flat in color. The book looks like it has a very nice blue tone but it seems muted out, possibly because there wasn't a strong enough light source. Also, if the under bed aspect IS what you were trying to portray, its a bit difficult to be sure, you might want to try another photo showing more of the bed so it can be easily identified as 'under the bed' and to help tie it in with a child, perhaps some little toes dangling over the edge. The focus is a bit soft - which may be another result of insufficient light. Overall I think the idea is good, meets the challenge well, there's just a few technical aspects that could use a boost - lighting & focus, and perhaps a shift in the composition. I gave a 4.

I like the concept a lot; darkness is so significant when you're a child! The book is the perfect choice, and I love including the flashlight. I wish that the picture looked a little less staged: the book looks positioned by an adult for the photo. I assume that's part of a bed that I'm looking at, but I would have preferred more clues as it took me a while to figure that out. Perhaps including more of the bed frame would have helped? Good try.

Great idea! Perhaps a "scary" bedtime story book would have been more appropriate. I don't know if Peter Rabbit is that scary. Good interpretation of the challenge topic, however. Good luck with the voting.

Good idea suffering from poor focus.

Good idea. Could use a little less light. A little fuzzy too. But, good subject. I like the shadow under the bed, flashlight, bedtime stories. Good setup.
