Composition:
When I first view this image I am drawn to the negative space to the left and away from the bird and lamp post to focus on the winged figure. I then spend more time trying to figure out just what it is and lose touch with the real subject, the bird on the lamp post. I really like your subject, the bird staring at you as you take it’s picture and the crack in the glass adds to the scene. If you could have positioned yourself to take advantage of the cracked glass and light the bird’s neck for more detail I feel you would have improved on your score.
Background:
The background is a bit busy and draws you away from the subject. I find the building very interesting and its light colors helps your mainly black foreground stand out. Again changing position away for the figure may have helped here. I see the connection between the statue and Birds challenge, but to me it is too much of a distraction.
Camera Work:
The focus and DOF make this image stand out; your subject really pops off the page. The high ISO may add to a bit of softness in the top of the lamp post.
Post-Processing:
I noticed you didn’t take full advantage of the 150kb file size which could have added more detail as well as using UMS if shooting RAW. I am not big on a lot of post processing and always find restraint a refreshing change. The boarder is a nice size and really helps frame your image.
My Opinion:
Personally, I feel that this shot with a few changes has great potential. The composition doesn't hit the mark, for me anyway, so I'd rate this as an average to above average shot.
This photo meets the challenge, in my opinion, but the background draws too much attention. I feel this lead to your slightly below average score (5.488 for this challenge) and after viewing your portfolio maybe slight disappointment on your part.

I would have liked to see the bird a little larger in this photo. Maybe a tighter crop on just the lamp and bird? |

This is a wonderful photo, I love the capture of the bird flying away and the cute bird on the lamp post looking right at the camera, even the crack in the lamp that adds a touch of colors accents this image nicely. Outstanding! 10 |

Not bad, but the backround is too distracting for my taste, I would like it more if you had more backround blur. Like the compostion though. |
