Excellent capture! Fixing the overexposure would improve this picture. |

Honestly I have to admit this photo is not about darkness to me. Quite the opposite really. In my opinion, the natural way of life can never be dark.
To me, this is a funny photo. But I just love it!
The DOF is great, the details are wonderful, despite the rather harsh lighting this is so well photographed. Besides, this photo just made me laugh :-)
I can however see some dark thoughts in this one. So I appologize to all those who meet the challenge so perfectly, but this one gets my 10.

Sorry for the form-letter type commentary. I̢۪m going to try to give almost everyone at least this breakdown to start. I would be happy to offer a more detailed opinion if you would like, though I don̢۪t consider myself a very knowledgeable photographer.
Here is how I broke down my score for your submission.
Content: 2/4 (Is the subject compelling? Does the choice of content match the challenge?)
Composition: 1/2 (Is the work well balanced and successful?)
Color/Light: 0/2 (Is light and or color used with skill and artistic intent?)
Clarity: 2/2 (Is the picture in focus? Are the elements clear?)

Interesting and refreashing twist on the challenge theme. Good use of depth of field to enhance the effect of danger. The bear looms ominous in the background and the bird seems oblivious to it.
There are a couple technical flaws that will hold the score down a little. The image is low contrast and looks washed out. The bird should appear jet black on the dark feathers and bleached white of the light ones. The biird itself and the rock it is standing on is oversharpened. There is a halo around the bird that should be cloned away and the rock has a grainy unnatural appearance. |

If that's not a toy doll in the background I've severely underscored this capture. |
