Well, now that I have recalibrated this monitor, this is a MUCH better photo, much less subtle than when I first looked at it. Did not vote in this competition, glad I did not now, for I know in my heart I would have undervalued this one. Earlier all I saw was the nose, chin, some eyes and the edge of the hood, can see even the background behind the hood now, see the hem along the shoulder and think someone needs a shave!! LOL, WELL DONE photo, would vote it very high if I had the chance to. Oh well, at least you are getting some very high praise NOW!! Not much good in the challenge, but sure should make you feel better!!!

I have a LCD flat screen home and at work as well. And every time I see
a picture I tend to move my head a bit and see it from different angles.
If I am watching it with my eyes below the center of the monitor I can't see it at all. But when I am moving up the image slowly appears.
It looks like the man appears from the dark. Amazing! It almost looks like a 3D. And believe me I am not having those expensive monitors.
It is true that is darker but that was the challenge about...
Well...just my opinion...the picture was supposed to be on top 10. |

I didn't vote this round but wanted to come back to see how this photo did. I know when I saw it as a thumbnail I thought someone had did the 'black' photo thing...but once I opened it (at home on laptop) I could faintly see the nose...then the chin. I'm at work now and I have a LCD flatscreen with a privacy screen and I am almost unable to make it out...this may be what happened with the voters....they probably didn't see it. I just wanted to let you know I thought it was a very cool picture :)

| cruel, but i guess most people dont see the photo, and only see total blackness. i guess its your mistake to have bumped the brightness too low. creative but... well, its a "see it or not" photo i guess. cant blame the masses. |

| This image is very cool, at first I only saw his chin and nose as I scroll down his eyes almost sunddenly appear and seem to be looking straight at me, very nicely done, hope to see this one at the top. I am sure you are getting alot of people saying this image is to dark, but it is wonderful in my opinion.! 10 |

| Great idea, great mood, like it a lot, but I feel it needs just a wee bit more light. I fear you may be penalised as people with poorly adjusted screens won't see a thing. Did comparison between my CRT and my LCD screen, and the CRT just showed black. Something to remember in future. |

| Nice control of the exposure and processing here. You have captured visible detail in all parts of the image (which I was unable to manage), but you have still retained the feel of a deep, velvet darkness. 7 |

A very difficult low contrast to pull off but you have done it spectacularly well. The detail is great without much electronic noise. The pose and composition are good. Nice facial expression capture.
The only problem you will have with scoring is that some folks will not have their monitors properly calibrated and won't be able to see this fine image well enough to give it a high score.

| Very cool. Might be a bit dark for some peoples screens. Probably find they will score you low for it. I think the best in the challenge. |

| very fine! One of my top for this chall.. It's odd for me to ask if it could be a little lighter. Not alot but enuff to bring the nose and eyes out for a bit more impact. The idea is great.A high score for you. Good Luck! |

| Assuming it's my monitor because in a dark room I can only make out the nose. Lightened it up in PS and really like the image. I wonder if others have this problem or if you intended it to be barely distinguishable? I'm going to assume it's just me and give it a good score. |

| Maybe a touch more light on the face (and only the face) but with the face further back in the hood. Perhaps from a small birthday candle without seeing the candle in shot. |
