I was happy to see this shot despite the flaws other folks have mentioned, since I grew up around these, but always had trouble seeing the red patch (I have a common red-green color vision defect). You've made it very distinct.

the composition is great as are the colors..but oversharpened. the leaves don't look natural as a result.
I think your " Coot" or "Chick" would have put you in the top 50.

Red Winged Blackbird is one of the mascots for my high school. Acutally that's what the marching band is called. It is always announced as a symbol of the start of spring. Your picture does justice to the bird. Although the head of the bird looks a little out of focus. But great capture.

Nice composition - how'd you get it to stay on a branch amongst colorful blooms? Maybe using curves wouls have allowed you to make the bright leaves a bit darker.

Very nicely exucuted bird photo. It's the kind you find in the bird watching guides and magazines.

a lot of detail is lost on the bird because of the brightness.

its one of those days where the sun is strong and (i have this problem too and don't know how to fix it) so the focus comes out a little soft, making it look more like a snapshot instead of a portrait.

I like this photo alot cause it's so reminiscent of spring and has a great feel to it. The foliage and flowers and sky are just so bright they make me feel so good...I do however, think that you lost too much detail in the subject of the photo. Possibly spot metering of the bird would have gotten you more accurate exposure. I still like it alot all the same.

Black subjects are definitely difficult to work with... this one looks a little overexposed and has lost detail in the black at the same time... this was a tough time to shoot for sure... - setzler
