I work at a roofing company (calculation, warehouse, safety, preparation etc) and so should have a good chance to get some great photos. But it sure ain't easy to get a good photo of construction, you know, one that has all the elements in it to tell what is going on. I have several very boring construction site oversights, several of my colleages that I will hang on the cantina wall, several close ups etc. But I wasn't really happy with all the results.
This was the first photo I took that day and in my opinion it works the best. The view is interesting, they are actually doing something, you have concrete in all its phases (in the 1 square meter bucket, rough on the floor, flattened, smoothened, only the iron).
These guys are from the construction company "De Nijs en zn." from Warmenhuizen. We are subcontracters of them and do all the roofing at this project Awic Meander II in the centre of Amsterdam.
The photo was not shot from the the crane but almost from the same height from the roof next to it.
I bet they had a terrible day as we had the worst thunderstorms in 5 years 6 hours later.

I love the detail, the color and the compostion. This was one of my top picks for the challenge. I can't believe it ended up this low. What is wrong with these DPC voters? Keep up the good work. |

I really like this. I'm finding as I vote that I really appreciate the pictures with people in them, especially since it seems to be less of a norm than I had supposed it would. The colors & composition here are strong, and it's an interesting moment. Well done! |

This is a fantastic images which for me has not reached its full potential. I have taken the liberty of reproducing it in sepia and it is sitting in my portfolio at the moment.

This is a really neat shot. I like the choice not to eliminate the upper left area because you get to see their progress of work. I would have maybe played with separating out the blues, but I dont think I would have changed a thing. Great work. |
