 My first submission with the 350D :)

Subject: I was desperately thinking of an idea for this challenge and I eventually decided to try and make a fairly mundane, everyday (for some!) decision seem interesting. I had a couple of ideas but they were perhaps a little abstract and I didn't really want to get killed in the voting as I'm keen to do well with my first entry with the 350D. I tried to highlight a particular choice by choosing a nice shallow DOF and focusing (manually for the first time!) on the white wine in the foreground.

Setup: I hung a sheet down from the roof to form a background and curved the sheet to cover the table upon which the wine glasses were resting. I set up my tripod in front of the table and experimented with different compositions (before I had wine bottles and corks and grapes etc.) before finally settling on this one. I also experimented with different ways to light the subject before eventually settling on lighting it nice and softly from behind by placing a 60W lamp behing the sheet with was paper about 5 cm in front to diffuse the light into the sheet. I then started experimenting with different exposures.

What I Would Change: I'd raise the level of the white wine to match the level of the red wine, but I don't have the time or the patience!

Loved the lighting on this one. The brown tone in the background compliments the wine glasses very well.

This looks a little tilted to me, might want to try rotating it a tiny bit clockwise. The picture has a beautifully soft feel to it, a combination of the light and textures. Well done, very artistic. Possibly try a slightly larger DOF to get more definition in the red wine glass.

Your title poses a question giving context to the image but alone the image is a well photographed artistic rendition of two wine glasses, one that may simply be in shadows or a different color, it is not apparent. I am not inclined to add the word decision to this image's keywords. glass, wine, art, gold, yes. This said the composition and finesse redeem much of the scoring, but I am left only offering a 4.

Background really doesn't do justice to the wine and glasses. Needs more light in the background. Otherwise, I good idea for the challenge.
