Greatings from the critique club :)

I really like the concept of this photo. My first thought was of the silent French film from the 1970s called "The Red Balloon." I think the dim lighting and greyish overtone are fabulous and definitely gives the feel of a rainy afternoon. However, I think the composition of the shot is lacking in a couple of areas.

First, the fence is very hard on the eyes. I almost get dizzy looking at it and it distracts the eye from what should be the obvious focal point: the red umbrella.

Second, the white line on the asphalt (basketball key, I'm guessing), also pulls the eye from the umbrella. It's a bold stripe of contrast before the eye reaches the umbrella.

Perhaps a slightly different angle to better use the lines as leading lines and a tighter crop to eliminate as much of the fence as possible would have made this a stronger photograph.

the splash of red really adds to this although I think maybe the composition could be better ? The tree that has sneaked into the upper right doesn't seem to belong. I wonder if you could have used some of the lines on the court more effectively as a strong lead in from the foreground to the umbrella ? A good entry.

The red umbrella is a good contrast to everything else in this picture. It really makes it stand out. This picture might've been better served to just include the umbrella and the tennis court though and left the fence out of it.

Far too much JPG compression on this photo...

that fence makes this picture rough on the eyes, but I can almost make out the rain falling on that bright umbrella. :)

Severe amount of JPG artifacts and noise. You may want to re-consider your method for resizing your photos for this challenge. I really like how the red stands out in this picture though.

Interesting sujbect. Looks grainy (oversharpened?)

The image seems to be rather pixelated...?

Clever idea, why don't I think of such things? Good composition, some traces of artefacting there however.

I love how the fence and solitary \\\"player\\\" add up to a feeling of trapped despair, caused by weather. Very nice. I hope people will take the time to look at this one closely.

Oversharpened? Too much artifact. Very good idea, but the result is not eye pleasing.

I think this would have been more effective if you could have actually seen the rain. Maybe a closer shot of the umbrella with some drops on it. It looks like the ground is wet, but still kinda hard to tell. I do like the white line and the angle.

zoomed in a little more would be excellent

Neat shot. Looks pixelated over compressed? White line at the bottom is a distraction.....but the composition and idea is very very nice.

chain link fences are always a pain in the butt to photo because they don't compress very well. if you didn't have an angle of the playground where the umbrella could have been placed w/out seeing the fence, i would have taken the shot from a higher angle and captured the umbrella and wet playground surface w/out the fence in the picture.

Nice idea, I love the red umbrella. I think the picture might have been more effective if it were cropped differently.

too sharp...

the wite line in front is too distorted, might have been better without it - over processed

Would work better in an open space without the netting.
