This was done by setting the chessboard on a table that was covered with black fabric which also covered the background. I set the board on a thick book, so that the light that was hitting it would only be visible on the chessboard.

The lighting is great

interesting composition, looks like it is floating in space

Makes me feel the board is floating which is a good thing (as Martha Stewart would say:-) I like the reflections of the black pieces in the back to help outline them against the black background

Maybe a biot more depth of feild to get all the pieces in focus better. Because you decided to have a less dramatic macro (for the floating effect I assume) that made me feel you needed to get more of the back elements in focus but that is hard to do I know. It's not all that improtant..just an idea that poked at me.

Still a good shot.

Very well lit, and I love the board floating in space like that. Maybe a reflector at R to bounce a little light back onto the white pieces? Composition is a bit static.

A well taken shot. But not very appealing. Too stark.

With the black background, I would have liked to have seen more depth of field.

I would like to see the color version. Nicely framed. Looks like the focus is on the king and queen.

nice touch just alittle to much reflection with the light

I like the way this looks to be floating in space. Nice contrast and the reflection of the pieces on the board are nice too.

This lighting is better than the other one submitted with the same game pieces.

Nice lighting and angle. I like the illusion of a floating chessboard

good reflections on the board, and use of black and white, very well done!

I like the use of light in this shot. Just my preference but I think this would of looked better in color.

Nicely shot, though there's a lot of dead space at the top and not at the bottom, a better vertical centering job could've been done.

Very nice

very nice and dreamy...

FREAKIN AWESOME

The lights and shadows on this shot are very good. I wish it was rotated just a little bit so that the corner was not front and center. Overall a very good shot.

Pawn to D4

I like the lighting and the simplicity of this shot... I think the depth of field could stand to be a touch deeper, but this photo is scoring a 10, none-the-less. Well done!

Floating around in the sky!

Pretty shot. Nicely done.

Good lowlight technique. Personal Taste: appreciate the translucent quality of the pieces.

A pretty chess set and excellent lighting.

Nice undulating shapes of your chess pieces. The lighting is really tight.
