Could have sworn I commented on this one during the challenge?! The gritiness and strength comes through in the tones, lighting, and mood. You have captured an era. All the best with the postcard -- what a way to reach so many people :) |

Update: This is one of my top three photos for this challenge. I like the grittiness of the black and white, which matches the surroundings and the photojournalistic feel of the shot. I like that you managed a true silhouette without blowing the higlights in your background - somethign that wasn't acheived often in this challenge I thought. And as aforementioned, I dig the light. 10
The light on the hat is a nice touch. I like the moodiness of this. |

What a wonderful journalistic image. This may not be half as strong for non-Brits but it really communicates SO much and so strongly to me. I love the framing and the tonal range and the composition and the head torch and just the whole thing. Absolutely fantastic industrial portrait. 10 |

Is this in a museum? Must be England then because the Iron lady got rid of most mines didn't she? Very good shot, nothing wrong with it and meaningful to boot.. |

Surely Thatcher's legacy would be the complete lack of miners? ; )
Good, powerful image. I like the dark framing you've created with the building and the miner provides a very strong focal point. |

having voted close to 4000 times since joining dp, this is my first 10 (yes i am pathetic..but..)..
this shot speaks..of history... of humanity...composition, detail, the foot just entering the shadows, stark lighting, the silhouette isn't just because it is a challenge, it allows this shot to represent more than this individual..Brilliant!!! |

This one is one of my favorites. I love the mystery to this one,
"Where is he going?" "What's this guy doing?"
Flat out nice job. - 10 |
