Thanks to everyone who voted and commented. No real photoshop trick here. It was done with a mini flashlight and a 30 second exposure.

The lush, silky feel of this photo has been on my mind ever since voting. These apples look amazingly sexy and delicious. Great lighting and composition. 9

Apple coloring: Rich, without losing the lighter contrasts.
Background: Like the black velvet that showcases jewelry so beautifully.
and... Continuing the same all around the apples works so effectly.
Set Up: Brilliant! To position each at different angles=fluidity for interest.
Cropping: Tight crop polishes this image off exquisitely.
Lighting: Perfect - enough to keep bright, dark enough to enrich the reds.
Gush-Level?: Mega-High 10 (y'think this might be my favorite?)

I have given five pictures 10 in this challenge and this is one of them. The apples have an almost surreal feel to them. I think you could take a bit off the top and still have a great picture.

I like the shadowy sheen you captured on the tops of the apples. Very effective.

Very cool feel to this shot. Maybe could be just a little brighter (not too much!), but overall I really like it.

Let me just say that this one of the best interpretations of this challenge. It has a quality that I can't explain but is eirie and spellbinding at the same time. The only things that keeps this from a ten are two reflection spots that could be cloned out under different editing rules. Nice depth comp, color and use of light.

This is just so juicy...no pun intended, or maybe it was. The light is so ethereal and the shine on the apples is divine. I would have loved to have seen this with more black above the sea of apples, a more squarish, "normal" canvas size with the apples in the bottom 1/3 or so...I just find this sort of long, squat cropping somewhat disconcerting and un-natural. I think maybe more black "breathing room" above would have made the apples "pop" even more than they do now...they are absolutely gorgeous.
