Very interesting shot. The comp is beautiful, but the house and powerline elements are a tad distracting. The highlights on the edges produce a slightly 'oversharpened' look. The shot has a ton of potential, and I'm interested to see more work of the same design.

I am impressed at the lengths you went to get this stunning photo, SJ: it is truly reminiscent of a "lost" dream. Great work. |

The tree is a great capture, its a shame that the torch light is too blown out. I wouldhabe like to see a little local tonal adjustment here.. |

Kewl. All that's missing is a ten year old boy and a stranded alien botanist with the power to heal with his index finger and a passion for reese's pieces and rigorous bike rides. |

Beautiful and well-titled!
It reminds me of a poem by Stevie Smith:
"Not Waving But Drowning"
Nobody hear him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
Poor chap, he alway loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.
Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning. |

Very nicely done. I like the way that the leaves are illuminated. The only thing I'd rather not see is the moon, but that's partially because it always looks fake when portrayed realistically in a photograph where it's not the focal point (prima donna heavenly bodies). You did a nice job of placing just enough light around the man's silhouette to clearly identify him as a person and not just an oddly shaped bit of foliage. If he were holding a torch rather than a flashlight it would give the image a very different feel, which I personally would find a bit more interesting. |

I love the light in this picture...the giant "glowing tree"...to me the picture has a slightly sinister feel to it...but that's probably because I've had too many nightmares with people chasing me...really effective and powerful photo, nicely done. |

Great shot, very dreamy, mystic and atmospheric. The only thing in this image that distracts a bit IMHO is the house to the right and the lines in the background. Very good shot nevertheless. 8 |

The lighting's great and everything is superbly sharp. I think it might look better without the power lines running through it. |

The flashlight doesn't work for me. However....the rest of the image is just perfect. Especially how the tree is just a bit off kilter.
A suggestion which may also work well is to have your subject in a more suspenseful pose...perhaps head turned left or right and arms and legs cocked ready to bolt. |

Great photo. Neat lighting, but I find the wires behind the tree distracting. |

A bit too oversharpened to my taste, but in this case(dreams) it works. To remove the power line, and the building would be a real plus to the whole image. Your getting a top score from me. |

Excellent idea and very nicely executed. Only 2 things that bother me - the "cables" running across the tree and the red area to the right don't work well with the rest of the image. The small light in the sky is starting to bug me too now!
The backlight is superb though, and the exposure well controlled. A very strong image. |

i really like the overall lighting effects in this shot....i just find the big light spot behind the tree to take away from the man a bit and distracting from his being lossed |

You found the technique for a magical image. Love the lighting on the tree and landscape. With Advanced editing, if you had cloned out that flashlight and the moon, (for me) this would have been an automatic 10. As it is, a super 7. |
