This photo taken at night in Nigeria shows some of the irony of life in this African country. It is mostly dark as the public power supply hardly works. At the same time there is a bright flame which is natural gas being flared - lots of energy available - precious little where it is needed.

Sky colors feel a bit flat. It seems as though that much sun would reflect on the clouds a little more.

Nice picture, the tower is a little distracting.

If that's the sun, it isn't night yet...

The sun setting in the back almost looks like an explosion. Nice shot.

wow, love the colors. The sihlouette of the palm on the right is really effective. I think you might run into some problem with voters about 'late' night since the sun is still visible but nevertheless its a really pretty shot.

Better not to have sun in middle

Very pretty colors in the sky, and a somewhat attractive skyline. The sun makes me think that this isn't very late at night, though. Also, the skyline seems very slightly high on the image.

Update: Okay, so it's not a sun, but a gas flare. The arrangement, particularly with the lights in the clouds behind it, make it look like a sunset scene, however, which still leaves me *feeling* like it doesn't really fit the challenge, possibly because I can't get over my first impression now. A title change noting that it is not a sunset might have changed that feeling to a sense of wonder about what exactly is being looked at (e.g. "In Africa, This Is Not a Sunset"). The current title, by blending "today"/"tonight", actively encourages the misinterpretation as a sunset.

Nice range here. The black forefround brings eyes to correct part of photo.

with the sun still above the horizon, it is harly a late night (unless it is in Iceland in summer - but I guess it is in Afrika :))

It's a bit dark. And I think that a bit off the challenge topic. I don't know anywhere in Africa where the sun sets late night, not even Cape Town in the middle of summer.

The clouds, sunset, and palm tree work well together.

Nice. Blues seem a bit strong. Focus seems off. Would of felt better if only the palm was silhouetted. 7
