After a tough week attempting to find a reasonable outdoor shot for the "Color" challenge, I settled on an indoor shot. This photograph was taken at the Aerospace Museum at Hill Air Force Base in Northern Utah. (A great way to spend a Saturday, if you're in the area, BTW...) The airplane is a P-47, a very close second to my favorite WWII warbird, the P-51 Mustang.

This shot was pretty tough to clean up to a point I was happy with it. My camera is quite limited in the available adjustments, and I was unable to set-up any additional light sources. The result was a shot under the museum's metal halide lamps... and lousy color and saturation. I set the black and white points to bring the colors into line with reality, then played around with Hue/Saturation/Lightness until I was satisfied. The final steps were a clarify, and unsharp mask at 1.25/75/20. I settled on a fairly tight crop of the nose of the aircraft to draw the focus to the contrasting colors, and away from the other lines and features of the airplane.

Fits The Challenge-Yes-Nice colors.
Composition-Room for improvement
Background-n/a
My Opinion-I like this shot, but not the crop. I think the view needed to be a bit wider, it feels squished to me. [?] Maybe it's just that I don't see the full ends of the propeller.
You mention that your camera is limited in adjustments. That may be so but I think you did a super job. The plane is in focus the colors are very good and the light is good. Camera or not you know what your doing. Good work.

Oh wow. This stirs emotions with me as my grandpa flew for the Flying Tigers in China. Good shot, but it seems to be a bit over compressed.

Very unique subject! Excellent. Did you have other angles to try to get the eye without the ceiling? And maybe leaving the end of the propeller in?

Wish there was no glare ont he eye, Wish the propeller had been angled differently. The color is dramatic. Framed niceoly on the teeth.

Nice colour, nice composition. Only slight niggle is bit of roof in top right, but this is still a very nice image.

I like the color and the subject. I think it would be nice to see a little more of the 'face' (mouth) towards the right.

Interesting angle, but with a subject like this, I'd really like to see the whole thing, but then again, there may have been a lot of background distractions. Nice shot nonetheless

Great subject and the color plays a strong role in the picture so it meets the challenge well. The cropping is a bit tight for me, I would love to see more of the airplane. I would also suggest opening the lens up a stop or two to throw the celing out of focus. The way it is now is somewhat distracting. Good shot! I gave it a 5.

Cool shot, I love the propeller blade where it is. You know... I knew this airplane looked familar. :) I have a shot of the EXACT same airplane, down to the position of the blade and the writing on the blade, that I took at the Reno Airshow last summer. :) Your pic is much better however.
