Challenge: Minimalism (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: outside
Date: Apr 26, 2005
Aperture: 9.7
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/5 sec
Date Uploaded: Apr 26, 2005

-Levels
-Reduced saturation for yellows (making rocks in background grey)

Used slow shutter speed and zoomed in on the flower (one of my favorite techniques as you can probably tell, that make the picture seem as if it's in warp speed, ). I also used a flash to try and make the flower more clear but this was the best I could get it because of zooming in, But I still thought the result was pretty neat.

Gimmicky, but it works. You seem to have some dust on your sensor though.

wow... this is cool... i def dont understand how it works... how did you make it all cool and blurry without spot editing? nice picture though... very original

The blur effect and centering the subject don't do much to bring out the subject. 4

this is making me dizzy but the more I look the more I like. i think a cool title for this one would be falling in a dream, cause it is what my dreams look like. 8

I would like to see the rose a little bigger and with a little more detail, but a cool picture!

Well this is different it kind of messes with your eyes, but it goes well with the objective of the shot.

You've missed the mark with this, according to Webster Minimalism is "a style or technique (as in music, literature, or design) that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity" There is way to much going on here with the blur forcing your into the center of the image. The subject is out of focus, it is too centered. Use the rule of thirds, lose the radial zoom technique focus sharply on the subject and reshoot, then you may have something.

interesting ...

I think this would have been a much more effective photo without the effect. Yes, it draws your eye to the flower, but when I got there, I was rather disappointed to find that nothing was in clear focus at all. I would love to see the photo in sharp focus.

This is a powerful way to address a centered composition....however...
It would be nice to see better focus on the flower since there is little rest for the eye, I just want some reward for all the work my mind must do. Unfortunately, there are points to rest on and they seem to be bits of sensor dust. In an advance editing challenge those could be easily addressed with cloning, of course.

wonderful abstraction, i dont think its going to do well with 'the voters' but i love it anyways. 9

I think the blurred effect and the flower being centered takes away some. The contrast between the stone and the flower would have carried this. It is eye catching.

the zoom blur adds a mysterious feel to the image, which is sensational. I do believe I would have leaved it in full color however. 7

Net picture and neat effect. The color really makes the subject stand out and the sense of movement makes the shot more interesting.

too much blur. gives me a headache.

Very creative idea, but the blurriness is a little hard to look at. I like the lone spot of red against all the whites, grays and blacks.

Very interesting effect. Flower only interesting in that it did not suffer from the movement effect. You appear to have some dust on your image sensor which shows up at high f numbers on light backgrounds.

NICE zoomer. I liek this image a lot. Hope it does better than I expect it will. One of the few "centered" images int he challenge that impresses me.

Interesting shot. I kind of like it. The color definitely stands out, and works well with the greys/neutral tones of the rest of the scene. The centered composition works very well in this case IMO. Not sure how the mass of voters will see it, it seems usually people favor crisp sharp pics, but I like it. A neat effect, I'm curious did you achieve this in camera or gaussian blur or something like that in editing? If you have the time and care to answer, feel free to PM me.

If this was done in camara GREAT; If it was done with software I am not sure this meets the basic rule. I will vote neutral for now

Nice use of the zoom blur. You've got a couple of spots, though, probably from dust. Nice concept though.
