Shot really slow. Learning to use the "sunglasses" I got for my camera and may have made my vacation pics a little too difficult. Sure I blew some of them. This was taken, I think, with both a polarizing filter and an ND--just got back from a beach trip and saw this "must-have" on the hillside where I parked the Jeep--didn't think to remove the filters, but, hey, it was vacation, wasn't thinking much at all.
I knew the challenge topic because I visited the public library on St. John. Lovely, wonderful people work there!
I don't expect this to do very well. I really think it's a solid 5. I've been wrong before. It fits the challenge, but it's not very compelling. I'm submitting it to share, and because I can't stand not having a score to watch.
I do expect to see some amazing images in this Open Challenge--it's a free study with a tiny constraint. (Hee! Pun!)

I like the texture on the rocks, but this background detail realy draws my eye away from the cactus. 5 |

I like the idea for this image but cannot help but think that there was a better angle to shoot from. |

A corner is not the best location for a subject indicating tenacity as the environment in which the tenacity exists is not locally observable. I like that you did not use an empty background, but the overall picture has very little aesthetic appeal to me. A 7. |

Nice composition. I like the contrast between the spikes on the plant and the worn surface of the rocks. |

Really nice texture and subtle limited color range...you can almost feel the cactus prickles. |

I like this. Not exactly sure why, must be the texture. I love the detail. |

A difficult image to comment on really, it has simplicity and is minimal, but the elegance I associate with minimalism is lacking |
