Meets the definition of minimalism, but it's dead center, Rule of Thirds?????

Placing the trap near the center of the image seems kind of boring. Viewing the trap from the side or from the perspective of an approaching rodent might have really improved this shot, but probably would have reduced it's minimalism.

I like the comparison between a guillotine and a mousetrap. I think alot of the black space is just going to waste. I know it's supposed to be minimalism, but I think just filling up more space with the subject would still qualify as minimal.

I think you could have gotten a more interesting composition by placing the trap in one of the corners of the picture. Good execution though.
