Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Minimalism (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Canon
Location: West Richland, WA
Date: Apr 23, 2005
Aperture: 18
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Macro
Date Uploaded: Apr 24, 2005

Since the heads of the dandelions only stood about 6 inches, this was a difficult shot to get. I had to lay down on the ground to get the right point of view, and the position of the camera made it hard to see through the viewfinder to focus. I tweaked levels, boosted sturation and contrast a bit, then sharpened. About 15 minutes after I took this shot it started raining really hard, and the dandelions ended up getting destroyed.

You really needed the blue sky to make this work...
Unfortunately... you've got clouds...
(But hey... the rain makes the grass grow!!)

I like the shot. Maybe it is my monitor, but there doesn't seem to be much contrast in the photo. 6

Simple, but effective, would like to see more contrast behing the head of the dandelion.

Wish there was a little bit more contrast between the dandelions and the clouds, they are getting lost in the background.

nice shot, but they seem a little too grand in general, and for this challenge, in particular

Why two dandelions? I think that one would have been more minimalist. Very nice image though.

Typically I really hate it when parts of things are amputated to create an image (people's feet are my pet peeve). However, in this case, I think it works. I think this is probably the first image that successfully portrays a dandelion as a monument. Yes, to me they look regal and noble and enduring. Not an easy thing to do. If the image had been slightly sharper with regard to the head of the dandelions, I would have scored this higher. 9 from me! Good luck!

I would have went with just one. Just a little out of focus. Maybe cropping alittle off the top?

I like the dandelions but the sky is too close in color to the flowers

I think you missed the mark by one dandilion and a low contrast background

A difficult image to comment on really, it has simplicity and is minimal, but the elegance I associate with minimalism is lacking

would have loved to see these with a stroiong backlight creating a halo. as it is, they blend into the background a little.
