Greets from the Critique Club:
Hi Heath!
Initial Impression:
A very colourful photo with good emotional impact. Just a tad bit out of focus.
Challenge:
Meets the challenge in an imaginative fashion.
Composition:
There are a few niggling things that I would like to see changed about the composition. First, the tilt is distracting, the other is the lighting. I would have really liked to see the lighting even across the whole face. Other than those things, this is a really good photo. The crop you have chosen really highlights the eyes and the emotion of the person without completely spelling it out for the person.
Technical:
As I said before, it feels a bit out of focus. I think if the eyes were better in focus I'd be more willing to forgive lack of focus elsewhere. Just my feeling though. As I said above, just a bit more lighting on the right side of the face would have improved the composition and impact of the photo for me.
Overall:
Good, emotional shot. I like it very much despite the minor flaws, keep up the good work!

Nice shot, can't say I like the nosehairs, but everything else seems perfect. I like the lighting on this shot, maybe a tad too much glare on the left. |

Nice idea
The left side of the face is over exposed and the right side is under exposed. You did a nice job with Photoshop on this shot. There is something a bit distracting in the shot but I cant quite put my tweezes on it. |

He he good idea. I was wondering how many painted faces I would see in this challenge, and this is the only one. Choice! |

tilt to the right a few degrees...I think it would be even more dramatic if the eyes were on an even plane, and more even exposure. |

Superb! I love the colors, the choice of subject...the left seems TOO bright but I like the light on the right side. (I changed the 9 - I keep coming back, so 10) |

This is a really neat idea.. I think it would be even stronger if the lighting was either more even or more drastically defined between right and left... nice work :) - setzler |

Gotta give a few points just for going through painting yourself/subject up like that! Pretty good shot. |

On the one hand I wish the lighting had been more even... on the other I'm pretty sure its because the lighting is so strong from the right that I like it. Either way, its a nice compostion. Great colors! |

Hummmm, this is sure different. I don't dislike this at all. I do think it's over and under exposed, but it's really really colorful!!!! Neat. |

To me...it would have been better to have even lighting on the face to accentuate the colors. In this case, there is harsh light causing shine on the right side of the face whereas it's dark on the left. ...Now that I look at it even closer and paid more attention to the title of your shot, I see the difference in eye color. My question is...is this natural or caused from the lighting. In any event, I still don't like the uneven lighting. |
