spur of the moment idea with some flowers we already had on hand.

had a hole in some matte board from a previous shot. slid the flower through the hole. handheld the 550ex in manual mode 1/64th power aiming close to make a stark shadow. set the camera on a 4 sec exposure, in a dark room so i had time to let go of the cam and fire the flash with the pilot button.

darkened the blacks & whitened the whites. sharpened.

Don't ask my why, but I kinda like this one. You break too many rules but in an odd kinda way it works at least for this viewer!

I love the placing of the flower and the contrast between the flower and the white background, but I think the choice to include the shadow, which lookes manufactured, really takes away from the potential this shot had. 6

Refreshing from all the other 'normal' flower pictures I've seen, good work

I love the detail of the flower. The focus is great. My only suggestion would be to perhaps include a little less of the shadow, as it detracts my eye from the colorful subject.

I think this would have been better without the shadow. Just me.

Love this. My pick so far! Especially like the way the flower is sharp and in focus, but the shadow in out of focus. Nicely done.

shadow should go bye bye, the beautiful orange of that flower is all you need for the focus

Did you do that yourself? or are we allowed burning/dodging in these ones? Interesting, howeverthe giant shadow is distracting. 4

Lots of harsh white hurts the eyes. I like the colors, though (the hint of green of the stalk adds a nice touch), and the composition of a full shadow with a quarter flower.

I don't like the big dark shadow. Too distracting.

I would have liked this shot better had the shadow not been there? Great focus on the flower which contrasts great against the white background 7

Kinda wish for just a little more flower, a little less shadow. Still, it's a very nice shot.
