Not a very attractive shot, but technically pretty well done I guess. Lighting appears to be good. The underside of the tack is a bit dark, but nothing that distracts from the shot. Focus is maybe a little soft in places, but we can still see the texture of the thumbprints and the blood is pretty clear as well. The negative space is good for the subject. Helps balance the shot I think. I like how the hand looks like a snake coiled up. Odd observation maybe, but interesting non the less. Don't care for the subject matter, but like I said, technically ok. ~Heather~ |

Hi there. I reckon this shot would do real well with a shift in the lighting to bring out the drama factor. It's nicely focused and the composition works. Color tweaks, though, could increase the impact. I'm saddened that many of the comments here involved "ouch," etc, and not opinions on how this image could be brought more to life. But I reckon a bit of experimentation with edits would truly bring out the image's potential power. Good luck. |

From the Critique Club!
Heesh, the first shot I've done a critique on in some time and I get this one. Makin' my stomach all queesy! (I don't do blood very well...)
Compositionally, this shot is one where the centering of the subject seems to work fairly well. Focus is spot on and everything that needs to be in focus is. Your lighting is a bit harsh and not very imaginative. Technically an reasonably well done shot.
So the question is why didn't this do so well in the voting process. If I had to guess, I'd say a large portion of it may be your choice of subject. It is not 'eye candy' and doesn't have a lot of staying power IMHO. Nice job with the fake blood. You fooled me...

there is another photo just like this one, but you managed to make the photo very real, unlike the other one that did the "blood"(because it dosnt even look like blood) in the program paint. very creative. keep the good work. |

Very strange image. I'm almost convinced you actyally drew blood to make this shot. And the SHAPE of the fleshhere is so ODD. It makes me think "cobra", and it makes me think "turd"... I'm sure you're cracking up by now. I'm scoring you right up there just for shock value alone. Feel free to PM me and let me know if this comment cracks you up as much as the image did me. |
