I don't understand why this shot scored so high. There is nothing special about the lighting or the composition, in fact, the photo does not move me in any way at all.

Heh, heh. Very good title to go with the shot (or vice-versa). The shot could possibly be improved by rotating a little counter-clockwise so the points of the tacks are vertical.
