 Someone commented that they didn't think the shot was accidental, and they were right. There was some plannning involved. This generally won't work for pond or park ducks. Pond ducks can swim away, and park ducks just don't really care. Anyway, I have a small creek where I get a lot of wildlife shots, and the ducks have to fly to elude me. This mallard chose the location and I chose the time of day. From earlier observation I knew about where he'd be at, so I pre-focused, so the lens wouldn't have to hunt that hard. After that it was just like skeet shooting. I had him in the sites, and just had to track him on a four shot series. Top 30 might not sound that great, but there is always exceptional photography in the free challenges, and the drake did finish in the 94th percentile.

This is a great picture. I can't believe it came in at 29th? I thought it was a ribbon winner. Two people scored it a 3? OMG, their monitors must have been black and white? You should sell this to a magazine. Its cover worthy.

Interesting background. Looks like you may have intentionally left in the color noise or maybe added it to be different. Still a great capture.
