It doesn't look like an accident to me! Interesting picture though. Good color. 6 |

I think this picture is of bad taste. |

A little unrealistic - I've seen a few of these for real. Nice composition otherwise though. Lovely subject even if she is poorly staged. |

Shocking but stii no "accidental" letters.. IMO did not meet the challenge but you definately got my attention |

Although i find this image quite disturbing, i am able to see letters within the image other than what is written (an A formed with the leg and arm with hate carved in it). Without this, i wouldn't say it fitted the challenge. |

Wow, what an image. Has caused quite the stir, hasn't it? I've been thinking about this one since the challenge started trying to figure out the exact tie in to the challenge and I'm honestly struggling with it because this is nothing "accidental" about suicide so it can't be that, the letters weren't accidental in that she wrote them on the wall and the only other reference I can even begin to see is the slash on her wrist making an I to go with the Hate on her arm.
As for the shot itself, nice composition but the lighting leaves a lot to be desired, the dark shadow on the right is very distracting and the set up is just that, too set up, there sould be more blood pooled in the bottom of the shower area, not just one little stream into the drain. The way she's set up is also very staged, I now she's supposed to be dead but she just looks like she's staring off into space. Maybe if the eyes were rolled back a little more. And I would also like to have seen both feet completely in the shot. A 3, sorry :( |

This is disturbing to me! It also does not meet the challenge as this does not appear to be an accident. Not my sort of pic, honestly. |

I don't know what to say about this one. Confusing. |

If you're into photojournalism, you'll have no trouble capturing photos that create an impact, and I see a future for you in that. However, this looks more like a serious cry for attention and help. Hate to be so blunt. (The llama with a muzzle I found disturbing - this is just real sad). 5 |

Totally inappropriate and not what the challenge was about. |
04/07/2005 10:37:38 AM |
This certainly does evoke emotion, especially when you have a daughter about the same age as in the picture. I rated it low though be the letters in it are meant to be letters. |
04/07/2005 10:12:12 AM |
This may not be appropriate, but the topic of this photo is so real and so tragic, I cannot get past the hopelessness it portrays to assess your work. The letters written on the tiles and the 'body' are not accidental, so I cannot see how this fits this category. I rate it low primarily because I do not see how it fits and accitdnetal letter entry. |

not bad for a suicide challenge, but i struggle to find an accidental letter |
04/07/2005 07:35:36 AM |
I think I looked at your shot the longest because I was shocked. However, it kinda does fit the challenge. I think the bent the rules a little, but it is definatley different from the other shots. |
04/07/2005 07:31:06 AM |
This picture is disturbing on so many levels, but besides that how does it fit into the accidental letters challenge? All of the letters seem to be quite intentional to me, maybe there is something that I am missing? |
04/07/2005 06:29:21 AM |
dont know how it fits in the catagory |

04/07/2005 05:51:47 AM |
Ok...I'm sure you have a million comments about this scene, there is a place for something like this and I'm not sure it is here. It reminds me of something somebody "young" would do, refering to setting something like this up and photographing it, and all the while thinking they are being shocking, bold, etc....I've spent some long years in "art" school and saw alot of things like this, things that make this look like Sesame Street, perhaps I'm jaded, perhaps todays society needs things to be blatant and unkind, but this is what I learned...there is nothing shocking or new, and eventually we grow out of thinking what we are doing is. |
04/07/2005 05:03:27 AM |
hope she's ok. nice photo, though shocking. not realy meeting the contest rules |
04/07/2005 04:11:58 AM |
I really like this image, very dark, and real. Suicide is a very deliberate act, not so much an accidental one so I don't see it fitting the challege exactly. Can't wait to her people reacting to this. |
04/07/2005 04:03:50 AM |
I know you will get a low score, First because alot of people will find this disturbing and second cuz the object of the challenge was miss interpreted
I personally find the pict cool, and will give you a 6 because of the misplacement within this challenge |

HHMMMM......I truly like this picture, but i feel like it doesn't fit the challenge. I see a posssible A, but that is stretching it a little bit. |

Wow! The message is very powerful. |

something I'm not cataching here. I don't mind powerful statements like this, but there should be a statement |
04/06/2005 01:40:21 PM |
Technically fine. Doesn't offend me, but doesn't meet the challenge as there are no 'accidental' letters (are there?). Is it an 'A' made by her arm and leg? |
04/06/2005 01:13:23 PM |
Way too disturbing and the letters weren't accidental at all. |
04/06/2005 01:12:05 PM |
Whoa! _Accidental_ letters! And that's kinda on the sick side. |
04/06/2005 12:51:04 PM |
I'm guessing that you've already been told plenty of times that your picture is disturbing and inappropriate -- maybe that was what you were going for ?? So, rather than say that again, I'll just say I feel more of a sense of compassion for whatever is going on in your life that would make a picture like this seem appealing. It makes me feel more like praying than condemning, if that makes sense. |
04/06/2005 11:47:58 AM |
The challenge was about capturing something with the shape of a letter but wasn't intended to be one.
Those letters on the wall were definately intended to be letters.
You are completely not fulfiling the challenge's definition IMO. |
04/06/2005 11:36:42 AM |
This is.....hard to look at...Too real ! Well executed though. The letters can't be considered as accidental here ( I think ) because they really are letters...so in my opinion this does not meet the challenge. |

Who cares what other may think. I love it. Powerfull image, itstrikes emotion into anyone who sees it. Strong, story, strong message, and very emotional shot. This is also very well done. It looks realistic. The obscure andles and lighting are perfect for this image it is in crisp focus and the colors are just right. Thanks for having the guts to stand up against the masses and watch your score probably plummit. This is truely art.. not many shots manage tobring emotion from there veiwers beyond "thats ineresting" or " ohh thats pretty. I must however complain that this does not fit the challenge. I fail to see the accedental letters. This would have been a 10 but as is i just can't justify it. Once again thanks. |

I really am missing the point of this, apparently. Not in good taste, either, I might add. |
04/06/2005 09:23:34 AM |
I rarely comment harshly on pictures, but this one is asking for it. The colors are dirty. I guess you are trying a pun on 'accidental'; if you are, it's a poorly executed one. The worst part, I think, is that it doesn't even make me cringe, despite being so gory (and I'm not exaclty braveheart); I guess it just fails to convey anything.
If you really wanted the brown ribbon, there are better ways of asking for it. 1. |
04/06/2005 09:18:47 AM |
Well, you certainly got my attention with this picture. To date I don't think any other images here have caused my heart rate to increase dramatically.
Since the challenge is "accidental letters" and these letters seem to be intentional (if unfortunate), I don't really see how this meets the topic. For 'shock art' this is certainly powerful, but probably of rather limited appeal (as are most items in said genre). Due to the polarizing nature of this shot, I'd expect it to do poorly on any challenge, even if it was on topic. If the designated theme was "desperation" or "hopelessness" or something like that I'd probably give this around a 7. The clear view of the girl's face really adds a lot of impact to this shot. Anyway, this is a valiant effort but is unlikely to do well. |

04/06/2005 07:42:26 AM |
that's really horrible! ........but somehow I like black humor, I stared at it 2 sec and then laughed... hope you intended people to laugh! I don't know how to vote this one... one moment I hate it, one moment I like it... Anyway 6 or more |
04/06/2005 07:05:39 AM |
I'm sorry, this is a VERY untasteful picture, and in my opinion does not meet the challenge. There are plenty of other subjects to find and submit. Zero if I could! (1) |

ooooh.... so this is the disturbing photo everyones talking about... who's the model? hope she has high-self esteem. |

No accidental letter here, sorry. |
04/06/2005 05:58:23 AM |
ok, i can see where the accidental letters would come from, but this wouldnt be an accident if she killed herself. |
04/06/2005 05:43:56 AM |
I don't see any accidental letters. Not going to ride you for the subject matter as many seem to be doing. Comp okay, focus okay, lighting not spectacular, but what do you want in a shower? B&W may have been better. Maybe not. |
04/06/2005 05:29:28 AM |
I have seen the thread speaking of this photo. Disturbing? yes. Out of line? who am I to say?
You took a chance at digging at emotion and it seems that you have done so. Personally, I tip my hat to you; for this photo tells a story all by itself and pulls in the viewer to think. Not many other pictures do that. |
04/06/2005 05:18:28 AM |
While doing some research a few years ago for a short film I was working on I found that when slitting the wrist it is better to do it lengthwise down your arm so you can damage more of your vein. Nice light and composure but where is your focus on a letter? |
04/06/2005 04:54:18 AM |
I'm guessing you know this might cause a bit of a fuss! The image itself extremely disturbing & thought provoking, so in that respect Kudos for achieving what you set out to do. But I dont feel these were "accidental" letters, they were intended. So to me it doesnt really fit the challenge, but that doesnt stop it being a powerful image. Good luck in this & future challenges. |
04/06/2005 04:39:23 AM |
i'm sure you're going to get more comments than you know what to do with...just don't take anything personally. i don't like the image, but i will defend your right to submit it! |
04/06/2005 03:33:39 AM |
This isn't accidental at all, as others I'm sure have said. |
04/06/2005 03:10:49 AM |
For me you got a 7 for its a good photograph tough it has some problems with focus and cropping.
However my personal feelings are that you (and everyone) should restrain from submitting such violent content since this site is visited by people of all ages and some shouldn't be forced to look at such cruel reality.
My will was to sabottage your photo but i'll wait for the result of the discussion when votting ends. |
04/06/2005 02:40:52 AM |
Pretty darn tasteless IMHO. You'll most likely get nailed for that and the fact that it's not a great photo as well. You might want to rethink the whole thing across the board. |
04/06/2005 12:42:47 AM |
i know you're going to catch some serious flack for this shot, but hot damn. Certainly pretty convincing, dark, dirty and powerful. Not quite seeing the "accidental" nature, tho. |
04/06/2005 12:17:16 AM |
and the letter is?? o.O... you maybe confused letter with message... |

WHOA...you need more blood i think...unless she isnt dead yet? |
04/05/2005 09:50:17 PM |
Disturbing, twisted, scary, disheartening. Obviously a cry for help - I hope you get some. I'm sure you're going to tell everyone that it was just a joke or a setup or something, but it is not funny, nor amusing, nor does it meet the challenge. I pray this was nothing more. |
04/05/2005 08:40:25 PM |
In my opinion, this fails in meeting the "accidental" aspect of the challenge. The lettering is certainly not accidental, and when one considers the actions of the victim in this scene... there is nothing accidental in these either.
These factors, coupled with the morbid scene will not play well with this audience I fear,,, but I could be wrong. |
04/05/2005 08:17:58 PM |
Accidental letters? Or just an accident here? |
04/05/2005 08:10:27 PM |
IM not even going to mark you down for the graphic aspect, but those letters dont seem to be accidental.... it is a very "on purpose" thing to do |
