This is a gentle, lovely shot, John. It somehow manages to bring tears to my eyes, and I have no idea whose grave this is. I love the little grasses pointing up, the resting broken cross, the grain, the diagonal of the cross being different than that of the base, the shallow DOF. Excellent work, John.

I am quite taken by the graininess of this understated image; it seems just right to me. The composition, too, is clearly very precisely thought out. The framing, also, is exceptionally nice. it all works very well together. I particularly liek how the tight cropping to the top of the stone emphasizes how the cross has been broken off from there.

Plain and simple but effective. I like the grain, I'm assuming it was intentional - good job

Perhaps a bit too much grain but wonderful composition. Bump

west coast, africa?

did you intend to use the grain here as part of the composition? if so...im not sure it works, especially with that nice modern looking border.

Well done image and very emotive. My only nit-pick on this one is that the crop is a bit too tight and centered for me. I would like to see the image breath more - but just my personal opinion or view.

Maybe it would be better if you got out som more of the textur of the stones?
Not bad though ;)

The noise works. I wonder how many will dissagree. Nice job.

I am making two passes on this Challenge. I will vote on your photo then return later(before voting is over) to comment on what I like and dislike about your shot. You can take the comments however you wish and I will try not to be mean. Just don't take it the wrong way.

Real noisy but maybe that is what you were going for.

A bit too grainy, but I like the composition.

Nice shot, but you didn't need the border - gave it a 6
03/28/2005 04:51:08 PM
nice composition but just too grainy for the subject matter IMHO.

The grain works really well. Really adds to the texure in the subject matter itself.

very effective use of grain, b&w - 9

I like this picture, I think that black and white rendition plus a bit of grain add to the ipact and make it clearly stand out. Hope it will finish well. (10)

Love the grain for the moody effect.
