The 'edit post' button is not working today so I will start over.
Hello from the Critique Club -
I live very near you, you have been taking pictures in my back yard, so to speak. I can walk to the Decordova museum and canoe to the Old North Bridge. I was the one who had just adjusted her monitor when your bridge picture came up. Well, I went back and readjusted pretty quick. Now I think it is finally Okay until the teenagers mess with it again.
So, what is a goo timer? I was in the majority of votors who gave you a five. I am going to assume this is a macro close up but really I'm in the dark about scale so maybe I'll skip over some of the technical aspects and concentrate on composition. It appears to be in focus, properly lit and all.
I think your composition is off. That big bubble commands too much attention and is too much in the center. You have some other interesting visual elements in the scene but you cut them off. There are the concentric rings around the bubble, and the center shaft below the bubble both of whuch could have added some balance to the blob. The bubble itself, since it is so center stage should be perfect, but it has several "hot spots" where the might is too bright and it has refections of what? trees? that are distracting. What if the bubble had been a third of the way to the top, would the lower pink goo had enough patterns to be interesting?
THe pink is nice but could it have been even more intense? Or could the contrast be increased with post processing? I notice that very few people are using your camera - but it does take a good picture. My best scores were with a 1.2 mpix camera so I haven't dealt with the limitations of .7mp. However, I think the reason this photo isn't more eye catching has to do with your choice of composition and not your camera.
The border, I really like it. Uaually I hate borders because they so often detract from a photo but yours is just right, it seems to confine the goo, gives it some nice boundaries. the color of the border is perfect too - is it reaally pinker on one side and bluer on the other or is that an opital illusion.
So in my not at all expert opinion this is a good photograph but not a stand out one. It lacks something to make it special. |
