 Shot on the LA DPC outing to the California Poppy Reserve. I really like the wing motion here. The amazing thing is that this was shot at 1/1600 of a second and still shows a significant amount of motion blur in the wings - how fast is he beating those things? Damn fast.

Lens: Canon 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM

Processing: RAW adjustments, Unsharp Mask, minor Crop

Post Challenge Note: I thought the connection here was rather clever, although I must say I'm not entirely surprised (nor upset) that others did not feel it fit the challenge. I must say that I am actually surprised at its placement - it was hovering at 4.7 for a good half-full day or so, and was increasing by about .1 per day from there on out. Anyway, thanks to all those that commented and I hope everyone enjoyed the shot.

i'm not the greatest in judging which photo will win...but this is BEAUTIFUL. you really focus on the bee. The blurs ADD to the photo. great job!

Great macro shot and nice interpretation of the "best friends" challenge - its refreshing to see an image different from 95% of the others (mine included, lol).

Hrm, seems to be pushing it in regards to the challenge topic. Can a food source be a best friend? I'm sure some psychoanalyts or chocolate addicts say so. Completely disregarding the challenge it's not a bad shot. The mix of sharpness and motion blur on the bee is good. It's a very colorful image. The out of focus grass or plant stems on the bottom left is a little bit of a distraction. It's not a perfect shot but certainly marketable.
