Now the original version of this idea is back in your portfolio it's interesting to compare. Why does the first one work better for me? The location/ background is more interesting and provides more contrast to the foreground. The light is much more interesting and golden. Your facial expression is stronger. The bright colours of the clothes being worn and ironed are stronger, especially with the way one sleeve falls off the board and swings below in the breeze. The only thing I like more in the second is the substitution of a kettle for the iron.

I'm disapointed that this didn't do well - I'm sure it got knocked down because people perceived it as just a reshoot, instead of building on what you did before, but I love it anyway. Wish it had made the top 10.

Wacky and funny. Bumping up.

bit of a cop out in my opinion. well taken photo.

I`ve seen this before but it`s still a 10 to you. Very clean and sharp.
03/15/2005 10:46:50 AM
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. You did a good job creating an alternative version of your original image, so I don't feel you just 'copied' your old shot. This time I don't like the background that much though. Is this the same place as for Surreal Vacuuming?
Wait I just noticed...are you actually ironing the shirt you were wearing in your last shot? *grin*. Yeah, I think your 10 is well deserved. Good luck to you.
03/15/2005 10:23:36 AM
hmmm. Good use of color, focus, DOF. Really just think the guy is nuts. But as long as he's happy! 7

Very unique. I really love what you've done here. 10

This one made me laugh outloud. The humor is great....

Hvað er þetta með þig og strauborðin útí fjöru? ;)
03/13/2005 11:58:46 PM
Now that is just plain silly. I do like the idea of the use of a teapot for an iron. The photo quality warrants a 6.

Surreal, and well-exposed- a good entry, but I'm a little disappointed that you didn't find something new. You're so good at this. Caught Up would have been a winner.

I thought I had seen something like this recently in Arni's body of work but I can no longer find it. Certainly a surreal image though lighting is a little grey and dull. I think it could be lifted by being taken at a time when the light was better.

my favorite part of this is that you're ironing with a tea kettle. I looked at this photo several times before even realizing this. Not only are you out in the middle of nowhere with your ironing board and cheerios, but you're using a tea kettle! Very creative attention to detail.

Perfect idea but shutted in a wrong wheater 6

Interesting idea. I'm not too fond of reshoots for challenges, but i must say, this is borderline creepy ;) The composition is very interesting and the DOF makes for a strange atmosphere, which i like very much. I would've wished for a tiny bit more sharpness tho. Nice work! 7

I just noticed the kettle, nearly missed it! A brillant idea. I think I know who you are, even though I'm fairly new to DPC. You got my vote 10

This is fun! Did you have an audience while you set this up?

If I'm not mistaken I've seen you do this image before, with a lighthouse or something in the background. I liked that one better.

Not nearly as surreal as your first take of this photo. It was a good idea in the first place though.

spurning hvort þetta er endurgerð af selfportrait eða nýja Ribbondrottningin að láta til sín taka:)...
hvort sem er þá er þetta djö flott;)
03/10/2005 04:35:51 AM
almost perfect, perfect a bird attacking. Nice shot.
03/09/2005 06:02:23 PM
The only addition which would have pushed this photo up a notch would be a business suit and ironing a white button down collared shirt. But I love the ordinary extraordinary surrealism of this work. If this isn't Arnit's work, you owe him a great debt. Imitation is the sincerest form of flatterly. Press on Arnit!

certainly an odd one. Did you try one with the model not looking at the camera? I wonder if that would emphasize the "in another world" effect if the model was intently involved in their work staring down as oposed to forward... Thanks!

I like this idea, but (in my opinion) the version you posted to the message board was a little better. Good luck...

i like the minor changes you made since the last time you shot this. Especially funny that the subject is ironing the shirt he wore in the last shot!

I just have to: 10 - You're already in my favorites, and I recognized this one from another similar one you did - but I think you should be wearing the shirt you were ironing last time since you're ironing the one you were wearing - and I think that make sense ...

I would have like the background if it was in focus. Great concept. Very surreal.

well hello arnit, i was torn with this one. it certainly meets the challenge (one of the few in my opinion), but there was this nagging feeling that i didn't know how to vote for it since it is basically a redo of a photo that you previously did. but then i looked into it further and the fact that the other photo wasn't for a challenge allowed me to vote high on this (like i wanted to) 9

Who is it, arnit or babylon? I'm guessing the latter.
The older version is better in my opinion. Brilliant image though.

Nice idea and marvellous execution. Even the color on the ironing board fits. Well, maybe you could have considered odd clothes on the subject too. Cheerios glares too much, but it might be this unusual monitor I'm using.
03/08/2005 10:31:46 PM
Ha ha . This is surreal really. I liked it.

I guess it does qualify as surreal (which most don't) but not a terribly striking image either. 5 for trying.

hilarious, couldnt you find a bigger cheerios box? can i have a cuppa?
